The music is the core of this show, but it also highlights how incredible Tammy was and how she represented so many women in this country! Great performances! See more Cassie s @calliekoo 03/07/2023 I give the talents of the actors 5 stars as far as being able to sing without it being dubbed but that old time depressing singing made me go to my medicine cabinet for an aspirin! I am not against country music but this old time stuff made me want to pull my hair out. Tammy Wynette sang it seemed nothing but sad sad songs that wouldn't make me want to listen to any of it! I could not finish watching the series due to the tone of their voices when they were singing. If u got an addiction of any kind or a recovering addict do not watch this series! P.S. I am 65 yrs old so this is not some young person writing this. See more Kevin L @Lakeman 01/13/2023 Impressive performances by Chastain and Shannon; especially as they did their own singing. This had to have been incredibly daunting to use their own voices to try and convey some sense of that of two iconic artists who were hugely successful and so beloved by their fans. I was esp. impressed by Shannon's confident approximtion of 'the voice', George Jones. Much credit as well to director John Hillcoat for the vision to bring this story, their stories, to the screen as a limited series. Great production design and cinematography. Shannon and Chastain are filmed in such warm but baring colors and light that we see her as the young, glowing lovely Tammy Wynette as realistically as we do the withering, pain-ravaged Wynette in the 40's & 50's. The same for Shannon as Jones, owning the house on stage, as well as the drunked wreck, aging fast and (nearly) losing it all. Strong supporting performances by Zahn as the vile rate George Richey, Barnes as Billy Sherill, Arrington, and Montgomery. Wynette was doomed by falling in love with Jones and her body failing to ever properly heal. Those issues along with past failed relationships and the demands of fame were her demons. Not sure what Jones' were, but it would seems some sort of psychological condition that prohibited his ability to enoy his success more, or work harder to keep Wynette as his wife.
