A show that works in moments-you can't get a cast this talented together and not produce some interesting moments-but never develops a rhythm.

Aug 10, 2017 | Full Review…

In short, a lot is very right with Get Shorty, which may well come calling again during next year's awards season.

Aug 14, 2017 | Rating: A- | Full Review…

The dark humor and bursts of bloody action will satisfy some viewers, but the pacing is so leisurely and the characters are such sad sacks that Get Shorty can feel like a chore.

Aug 14, 2017 | Rating: 2.5/4 | Full Review…

The Epix series is a dark comedy told at the length of a traditional drama. That it works as all three is why it works at all: This Get Shorty isn't like the others.

Aug 14, 2017 | Rating: B | Full Review…

No one forgets a title like Get Shorty, meaning that a remake or an adaptation will always be conspicuously recognised as exactly that.

Jun 7, 2018 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Get Shorty on the whole feels like it's trying too hard to balance the darkness and whimsy of the story, and to extend it across a whole season.

Aug 10, 2017 | Full Review…

The sustaining joke of the show, though, is the still effective tug of a shabby Hollywood promise, filmed in appealingly faded hues, where even certain death might be avoided with the right movie pitch.

Jul 2, 2018 | Full Review…

The yawning gap between the characters' fantasies and grim reality is what drives all of Leonard's thrillers.

Jun 13, 2018 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

This series is as fun as it is brutal and as charming as it is revolting. That makes it a killer of a new series.

Aug 10, 2017 | Rating: 3.5/4 | Full Review…

The showbiz material is pretty thin, and much of the series takes place in dusty desert locations, focusing on tired crime-drama devices.

Aug 10, 2017 | Rating: 2.5/5 | Full Review…

You almost wish these actors could reunite in a different project that could offer them some fresh storytelling... and not be tethered to a reboot that exactly no one was clamoring for.

Aug 9, 2017 | Rating: C- | Full Review…

A fun, funny and sexy adventure, Get Shorty, despite renewing some clichéd concepts, succeeds in being irrefutably fresh.

Actors are great! Such a variety of amazing talent in this show, but this has the typical triple Hollywood treatment - smoking (including vape and weed), porn, and anti-Christian (rag on Mormons). Dialog is kind of slow too, could be much funnier with less visual storytelling and more dialog.

Really good all around. Not sure why I hadn't heard more about this series before.
  • Nov 18, 2020
A shame this did not get more love. Get Shorty is just brilliant.
  • Jan 25, 2020
A truly magnificent show. Chris Dowd was born to play this part.
  • Jan 18, 2020
    Best show since breaking bad.

Get Shorty was a satisfying surprise. Chris O'Dowd was great, he was able to convincingly play both a loving family man as well as a gangster, and I also found myself rooting for Sean Bridgers' Louis Darnell character and wanted to see him really assume the writer he was pretending to be. I loved how this show focused on the theme of "fake it till you make it" and that pretty much a character's identity is whatever they choose it to be, I also liked how minor characters would be affected and start to change based off the things people would say or do to them. I liked Amara's backstory episode and I felt like she had a couple good moments in the season, but she got really boring by the end and I hope they do something more interesting with her next season. Ray Romano had some good moments as well but seemed a little underutilized. I felt like this season was a great introduction for these characters and I can't wait until season 2.

  • Nov 17, 2019
Still for me the best show on television now. Great writing, great acting and great character development. The show has some really dark scenes but they typically are surprising and always helpful in telling the story.
  • Dec 22, 2018
Best show in a long time! So much better than a lot of the crap on TV! Great acting! Great storytelling and belly aching laughs!
  • Dec 18, 2018
