Critic Reviews for Getting On Season 3

All Critics (11) | Top Critics (6)

This cult comedy is hysterical, and it's brutal, too, in its take on the health care industry and the way it cares for elders.

[The three lead actresses] deliver with nuanced performances that turn quick glances or sighs into punch lines.

Jun 13, 2018 | Full Review…

Getting On, which is based on the acclaimed British original, and which is now in its final season on HBO, lingers in my mind as much as, if not more than, almost any other dark comedy, even in this era of exceptionally good options.

Three seasons in, the body comedy can be a little predictable... But then the nurses react to the incident with funny, moving humanity, and Getting On demonstrates what makes it so special.

In its three short seasons, I feel I've done a slight disservice to HBO's textured and poignantly funny Getting On by not praising it more.

Nov 6, 2015 | Full Review…

In its third and final season, the series is still brilliantly droll, elevating the most mundane moments into something that's either hilariously awkward or genuinely moving -- or, at its best, both.

Though the morbid undertones of the show can't be avoided, particularly with elderly patients knocking on death's door, Getting On is a black-comedy of the highest order.

Aug 14, 2018 | Full Review…

More seriously, Getting On serves to document how our personal lives intersect with work in the most inconvenient of ways.

Getting old, I can tell you, is not for wimps. Neither is Getting On.

Laurie Metcalfe is doing great work as a manic doctor trying to hold on to her job following a scandal.

Nov 10, 2015 | Full Review…

Sure, Getting On may sometimes be hard to watch, filling the viewer with an existential ache that's hard to soothe. But it always manages to rescue itself from utter despair with some great gag or moment of warmth and tenderness.

Audience Reviews for Getting On: Season 3

Grant Bowler!!! Getting On season 3 ties everything in with even more hilariously executed slapstick jokes, perfect ending to a perfect series.

Getting On's third and final season is a strong finish. Continuing with the story thread of the impending shut-down of the show's extended-care wing, the series sustains a good sense of climax, with more quiet little moments, and plenty of brutal humor. The cast is as impeccable as ever, most notably with Laurie Metcalf who is ever the joy to watch. Getting On was quite possibly tv's most underrated program, but hopefully newcomers will come across it easier now that it is complete (and fully binge-watchable)
