Critic Reviews for Ginny & Georgia Season 1
All Critics (30) | Top Critics (14) | Fresh (20) | Rotten (10)
Lampert, Fisher, and company are at their best when writing for Ginny, and Gentry doesn't miss a beat.
Surprisingly, it pretty much all works. The dark secrets (there are many) balance with the apparent fluff, making for an engaging, never-dull series. Maybe the Gilmore Girls should have had guns.
Ginny's very real world and Georgia's very heightened one might both be fun, but because the former is much more successful and better executed, the latter starts to feel like marking time.
The body of the series is a bantery young-adult soap, the head a woman-on-the-edge thriller, and the tail a race melodrama. The creator, Sarah Lampert, must have looked upon her handiwork with proud amusement.
Ginny and Georgia has its fair share issues, but it handles teen sexuality without preaching or condemning and offers a path where sex doesn't have to mean much at all.
This manic, mystery-fueled mother-daughter drama reels in viewers with more sex, drugs, and violence in the first episode than we saw in seven seasons of the Gilmore Girls.
Whether or not Ginny & Georgia is "good" depends heavily on how many edibles you've consumed before watching. Wellsbury is certainly not Stars Hollow.
The script's plotholes... [starts] so many stories that, in the dent, it doesn't end up providing the screen time that each one deserves. [Full review in Spanish]
Howey and Gentry are great both together and separately, the show's twisting plots are addictive and soapy without being too implausible, and there's a thoughtfulness in its approach to issues of race, sexuality and parenting. I kinda loved it.
Ginny & Georgia isn't the new 'Gilmore Girls.' It's a mess...
Ginny is living a teen drama, while Georgia has a closet full of skeletons in a thriller mystery. Somehow these two lanes work to tell a compelling story about family, the secrets we keep, and the truth that we may all become our parents eventually.
There were some very funny moments, but they mostly involved the supporting characters.

14h agoIt's such an entertaining show with so much love, drama, comedy.... In it's first season (hopefully not last) it really shows a but of every character. You get to know them. Some more, some less. Everyone has a hard past but they all try to figure out how life should be for them. My personal favorite is the relationship between Ginny and Marcus. They have such a connection and understanding to the other. To be honest Idk why Ginny chose Hunter. Cause wtf?!? He's cringe af. But every character has its past and I love that it's kinda like real teenage life. It shows that no life is perfect and everybody has to go through something. Best show I've ever seen. Don't like the ending tho, so I hope we'll get season 2 confirmed soon!! Need it really cause since the show came out I have watched it 7 times and didn't watch something else. Really addicted to it haha. DEFINITELY DESERVES SEASON 2!! But I want to see more of Ginny and Marcus please haha so NETFLIX SAY WE CAN GET IT!!! and most of the bad reviews are from swifties that didn't even watch the show lmao. Please don't cancel cause of one bad joke. Thanks. Need season 2 now! Love, B

14h agoI love watching movies and TV shows, they're my obsession. When I saw Ginny & Georgia on Netflix and how many people were talking about it, I knew I had to see it. It is in my top 3 favorite shows now. I love the characters and the cast is amazing and they did such a good job portraying the characters. Ginny and Georgia both have a lot going on in their lives. A lot of drama. I love how many secrets we find out about Georgia. The ending has left me wanting more and I'm so excited for season 2. I really recommend watching this show!

1d agoThis show was amazing. I love how relatable a lot of the characters are and it makes you feel young again going through the horror that is teenage-hood, but it's also wildly entertaining with Georgia's back story. More seasons please!
-
1d agoHorrible show, horrible Characters. So unlikeable, especially Ginny and Marcus. The acting saved the show the whole cast was fantastic. The Characters were just written to be unlikeable.
-
1d agoIf you want to see some SERIOUS CHEMISTRY I suggest you watch this show right now. I'm 17 and I'm just saying, MARCUS BAKER. we need a season 2 stat.
-
2d agoI thought that that tv season was really great, but I want to Ginny and Marcus to end up together and I think that Joe knows that Georgia is that girl who he met on a trip but he isn't sure and they definetly need to end up together too.
-
2d agoAbsolutely Amazing, definitely worth the watch. P.S. Netflix please, please, please make a season 2 because this show has completely changed my look and perspective on life. I will literally die if I don't get a second season! I'm not being dramatic I'm just telling the absolute, full truth.
-
2d agoloved it so so much!!! i will 100% watch season two
-
2d agoI love this show! I can't wait for season 2
-
3d agoAs a person who comes from a mixed family I completely understand Ginny. The line where the white girl says 'You're so exotic, where are you from" resonated with me. People don't realize how endearing that is to hear from someone. As if I could be anything other than black? I hope the show continues because it brings multiple conversations society is finally ready to talk about.
