Pam M @RT15317663 5h After a three year wait with bated breath from the ending of Season 2 of this much loved series, the widely lauded finale was a huge disappointment. I was aware that the initially planned six episode series had to be truncated owing to unfortunate circumstances, and was not expecting a masterpiece, but, boy, did this 90 minute fiasco disappoint. The wonderful cast did their best, especially the leads, and the costumes and props were beautiful, as ever. But the writing was simply dire. Pointless plot elements came into play only to be abandoned shortly afterwards. There was no tying up of dangling plot threads from the previous series. And the ending was ridiculously bleak, and managed to abandon all that made the book and first series so delightful. If you love Good Omens with its life affirming message of hope and the importance of always trying to work to make things better, avoid this mess of a finale and reread the book. It's an ending that mistakes avoiding a resolution for being profound. Completely unsatisfying, and far less clever than it thinks it is. How this script ever got greenlit is beyond me. See more Eira H @EiraH Aug 4 The new poster child for wasted potential. A loyal fan base, a well regarded genre director, a talented crew and two of the best lead actors in the UK. This should have been a slam dunk, feel good, fun and funny finale - even with the truncated run time. I can only assume that there were legal barriers to starting again with the script when it was reduced to 90 minutes, otherwise there is no excuse for just chopping out sections and crazy paving them into this patio of nonsense. Pointless story lines that went nowhere, depressed, exhausted, bitter versions of the main and side characters and a cod-philosophical and pointlessly sad ending so amateurishly written that it just left me staring gobsmacked at the TV. And I have my doubts that Terry Pratchett would have approved of something that dropped most of the comedy and satire and which finished by removing the fantasy elements from a fantasy, retconned the events of his book into non-existence and presented that as a good thing. See more dindon fr T @RT97939316 Aug 1 The script is full of holes, contradicts the first two seasons, and the characters are poorly written - for most of the film they're ooc (the same goes for the acting, though that's hardly surprising given the tight schedule; DT and MS didn't have time to rehearse, which is a shame given their talent). SPOILER. But above all, what on earth were those daft choices? The dance and Jesus are pointless, the scene where Azira’s in hell made me cringe, and the one where Crowley says 'choose heaven instead of me' annoyed me. It would have been the perfect moment for them to finally talk, but no. The ending leaves me baffled. It contradicts the whole theme of Good Omens. It's so badly written that I feel nothing when I see them die, whereas I'd have been in tears at the end of series 2. It's such a shame when you consider all the effort that's gone into the costumes, sets, VFX and camerawork which are incredible! I've never seen a finale so disrespectful to the characters, established themes, source material, and fans all at once. No, the ending is not "bittersweet." It's just bitter. No, it's not bad because it's sad. It's bad because it's bad. Plot hole bad. Storylines that go nowhere and waste time bad. Loose threads that are never tied up bad.
