What to Know

Critics Consensus

Wickedly inventive enough to give viewers the creeps if not nightmares, Goosebumps solidly transplants R.L. Stine's spooky stories into a serialized format.

Instead of streamlining things for a refined first season, following perhaps just one or two of the teens closely and expanding as it progressed into later seasons, the show is a lump of bland YA themes with a sprinkle of Halloween for flair. Go to Full Review

This version of Goosebumps, then, has a lot of promise. How it does in the future, though, is up to Disney. Go to Full Review

What starts as an enjoyable, mature take on Stine's classic series with some inventiveness becomes a generic horror series built to keep the "Stranger Things" crowd happy as they wait for their favorite show's final season. Go to Full Review

Goosebumps provides plenty of entertaining moments, even though it gets incredibly goofy. Go to Full Review

Don’t let the formulaic setting trick you, for there is cool supernatural storytelling, body-splattering worm-eating gore, and lots of fun waiting in the first five episodes... Go to Full Review

Leland C. @woodyonnyquil May 18 The amount of joy I felt staying up late to watch the first 5 episodes when they dropped👏This season was amazing. It's not without a couple issues, sure, but I was engaged the whole time, week after week, there for every episode drop. October 2023 can never be replicated for this soley reason: Goosebumps. Only reason this gets 4 stars is because we left on a cliffhanger and picked up in s2 with a brand new story and brand new characters. (see my review on s2 to hear my thoughts on that) I miss the characters from s1, and after s2 and the series getting cancelled, I dont think we'll ever see them again, sadly. But, overall, check this show out, you'll get Goosebumps. Slappy was really good in this show, overall this show surprised me at how dark it goes compared to the original books. The books would have never been able to get away with what this show gets away with and I love that it pushed the envolope See more Charles T. @CharlesGaming1000 Apr 15 thought it was very solid it was a very interesting movie. I mean, show whatever. And I like the fact that it does something completely different from the books but still feels like an RL Stine thing See more Andy C @HaYouGay Mar 22 Season 1 was peak if you disagree then you need to get serious therapy.
