Critic Reviews for Red Hood

How is it even possible that after what I'm pretty sure was Gotham's most baffling episode, it comes back a week later and air what I think is this show's finest episode to date? Just when I think I'm out, they yada yada yada you get the point.

It moved well, had some great action, and some really funny moments. Honestly, I think it helped that Jim was in very little of this episode. His angry heroism has long since worn thin.

I've been calling for Gotham to strike a balance between it's bat-obligations and telling a story that can stand on its own two feet, and "Red Hood" did it, and did it pretty well.

Unlike so many other episodes, this one used its insanity to stay pretty entertaining from start to finish.

As Gotham enters into the final stretch of its 22-episode first season, I'm happy to see that some of the seeds planted early on are finally starting to blossom into interesting story arcs.

The thematic clothesline that props up "Red Hood," one of the best episodes of Gotham to date, is blessedly simple: What empowers the people of Gotham City? Each character answers that question differently, because each of them is after different things.

Gotham will likely always prove to be a bubbling cauldron of hot crazy, though "Red Hood" admittedly offered a less infuriating look at the underlying exploration of the Caped Crusader's origin than last week.

We keep learning just how far Fish Mooney will go to create an advantage over her enemies... No, this is not a family show.

Gotham hasn't delved this deeply into social commentary before, nor has it offered subtext this substantial, and it's heartening as all hell.

What an intense episode! Fish, in all her badass glory, shows us there's no tougher, scrappier or smarter villain in Gotham.
