Gotham: Season 3 (2016 - 2017)

Season 3

Critics Consensus

Gotham's third season lets the series' freak flag fly to thrilling effect, but it is far more fun to spend time with the supervillains than virtually any of the other characters.

Three seasons in, it still hasn't really found a balance; let's hope that changes.

Harvey and Jim's relationship is one of the keystones of Gotham, and a reason I come back every week.

Those who've managed to keep up with the decade of continuity shoved into three seasons will likely find a lot to enjoy in this third season.

Gotham Season 3 is the strange union of melodrama, crime thriller, and superhero tale. The returning cast all get a chance to shine, and new characters (such as Jervis Tetch) all add something fun to the show.

With its incredible multitude of twisty, intertwining storylines, intriguing characters, and excellent ensemble, Gotham: The Complete Third Season continues to prove why this is one of the most compelling shows on television.

Aug 28, 2017 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

With its opening episodes, the third season of Gotham creates a darkness that I'm not sure I ever want to escape.

Sep 16, 2016 | Rating: 8/10 | Full Review…

Where the visuals suggest a wild burlesque of the mad and blood-lusting criminals of Gotham, the writing goes for goofy quips and platitudes that keep the show just safe enough to be aggravating.

Audience Reviews for Gotham: Season 3

  • Aug 03, 2019
It has some really high points, as well as some low ones. Ed and Penguin steal the show (as usual), and although Jerome is only in it briefly, he was a huge highlight. Smile Like You Mean It is the best episode of Gotham to date.

how can anyone complain at this season which introduces captain Barnes
  • Apr 19, 2019
The story with Mad Hatter is quite solid and it's linked up till the end of the season. The season finale is very epic and the fight between Bruce Wayne and Jerome Valeska is just precious to me.
  • Mar 04, 2019
Strong character development, a consistent tone, believable characters, chemistry and acting solidify this show as the greatest comic book show ever.

Again, season three continues to keep the thrilling effects of the previous two and now adds in supervillians to the mix!

Love This Gotham Season Definitely My Favorite Gotham Season So Far
  • May 04, 2018
it is a very good SEries, and it's best season so far (since i live in austria, i have not seen the 4th season yet). All the characters go through a transformation, the biggest transformation has to be the ones of Penguin and jerome. oswald (penguin) discovers that he is gay and in love with nigma, which is beautifully played by robin lord taylor. also a good acting is done by cory michael smith playing a riddler, who is obviously not interested in oswald. jerome in his case is coming back from the death and releasing chaos in gotham citiy. a very good performance by cameron monoghan giving us one of the best joker performances i have seen in a long time (even though he doesn't play joker in the series, but he is kind of close, isn't he?). The story is good, but not extraordinary. It's basically like any other season (there is a Main-Villain, in this case its the court of owls). But since we get the back story of batman here you can consider it special.
