Grantchester: Season 1 (2014)

Critic Consensus: Grantchester is an easygoing sleuthing series that is satisfying as it is gentle, with a likable partnership between James Norton and Robson Green at its heart.

If this Mystery! doesn't live up to its exclamation mark, it at least it delivers on some predictable pleasures.

Just offering a solid, pleasant, soothing, relaxing and visually engaging series may have to be enough for Grantchester.

Some of the episodic mysteries are stronger than others, but the characters wear well over time, and the use of jazz is rather shrewd.

The glorious new PBS mystery series Grantchester is a revelation on two fronts and unforgettable on both.

It's light and diverting yet respectful of its characters and their histories, thus it can serve as a pleasant, earnest counterbalance to some of TV's darker dramas.

Audience Reviews for Grantchester: Season 1

A hot and angsty vicar who is all too human is certainly an unexpected pleasure. The mysteries aren't gripping, but the interaction of all the characters and their own struggles in life are what keeps you watching. Very good show and can't wait for more episodes.

Season 1 was good and promising. So far, Season 2 is hideous. Not even Rev Sidney's adorable angst can save the horrible plots. PLEASE find better writers who can keep the story lines to small town incidents and complicated romance and keep the Russian spies to the cutting room floor. And we can accept Geordie's hostile tendencies until they become abusive-especially when it is towards a woman-shame on you guys...

Glad I got caught up on this. I love the interaction between the Vicar and the detective. Both great actors.

Really enjoyed this blend of detective story and period drama. Especially liked the chemistry between the two leads but the main actors are all great.

Absolutely love this show! Interesting storylines. Great characters to care about. Interesting settings. SO glad there's going to be a season two.

Wonderful show, just saw it for the first time and addicted. Beautifully done.

Excellent show! I was left wanting more!

Outstanding cast coupled with writing that gains complexity with each episode . .

Love period shows and this one fills an untapped time period currently aired. Great characters, clever mysteries. Highly recommend.

The BBC does it again! Just great television!
