Engaging all the way to the very last minute-- all the twists and turns of the story were very creative and entertaining and I loved the characters! And crazily... I had to watch the entire thing to finally understand what the end theme animation was representing-- and it simply floored me when I discovered what it was... combined with the music, that last theme imagery is hauntingly beautiful and I really did break down in tears when I realized what it was showing the entire time. See more 02/23/2021 I've got some "ragtag group of con-artists" shows/films under my belt (Leverage, Hustle, Oceans 11,12,13) so I was somewhat eager to see what kind of life the Anime medium could inject in the genre. Predictably there's more melodrama and that's about it. Some cases are better than others with stronger character stories tied in but as a whole the good parts even out with the bad and you end up with a serviceable narrative. What's "great" about the Great Pretender is actually the visuals, the gorgeous backgrounds in this production are really something.
