What to Know

Critics Consensus

Green Wing's anarchic plot structure and wholehearted commitment to wringing every possible laugh from every moment makes it a snarky treat for comedy aficionados, although viewers who like a little structure with their humor may feel baffled by the series' irrepressible absurdity.

Mark Heap is outstanding as the consultant radiologist... Very insubordinate, very clever, very young. Did I mention, very funny? Go to Full Review

It can be obvious, vulgar and infantile, and it is certainly never subtle. But this frantic hospital comedy can also be extremely funny, and any comedy on TV that is genuinely funny deserves the warmest of welcomes. Go to Full Review

A riot of surreal banter, oddball sex and camels in corridors. Go to Full Review

The show seems like what would result if a group of nine-year-olds on a sugar high nicked a laundry bag of white coats and went off to play doctors and nurses. Go to Full Review

Test T @TestTest1 09/02/2023 I really enjoyed this. I got it on DVD, and watched an episode each evening until it was done. The characters are really funny, and somehow the hospital setting provides the ideal environment for them. It's just crammed with funny and unusual scenes. In terms of sheer comedic density, it reminded me of Fawlty Towers. There's always something amusing going on which I really liked. The only thing I was unsure about was the ending in the last episode. It's different from the other episodes in that there is more drama and less comedy and I found this a bit disappointing as the series climax. See more 09/11/2021 Brilliantly funny. Script, actors and directing. Doesn't really get any better than this. One of the few series that is as enjoyable to watch as a repeat as there is so much crammed into each scene it just never gets boring. The funniest show ever! See more 05/12/2020 Watched it when it came out and sat down in lockdown to see if it had stood the test of time - with three kids who were 0, 3 and 5 when it came out. Teenagers loved it too. Lack of smartphones but precious little else dating it. Still as irreverent, the romance plot line adroitly handled by the wonderful Tamsin Grieg and a cast of men, the more outlandish subplots spliced in with ahead of its time editing (no surprise the team of writers all worked on Smack the Pony just before this) and great music. The corridors, the doctors who do nothing, the managers who do less: it's the only medical show I will watch as a medic and it's stood the test of time. See more 01/31/2019 Probably the funniest, weirdest hospital show to ever grace television screens. Brilliant. This is the show 'scrubs' wishes it could have been. See more Read all reviews
