Detective Lois Tryon feels a series of heinous crimes in her small community are eerily personal, as if someone or something is taunting her. At home, Lois grapples with a strained relationship with her daughter, a husband in long-term hospital care and her own inner demons. With no leads and unsure where to turn, she accepts the help of Sister Megan, a nun and journalist with the Catholic Guardian. As Lois and Sister Megan string together clues, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers.

Throw in grandiose crime scenes with those biblical implications and a bubbling cauldron in the desert and you have another bizarre guilty pleasure that taps into our dark sides and keeps us watching. Go to Full Review

Murphy and his collaborators Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken use that bar to push onto the audience things we haven’t seen and yet can’t erase from memory Go to Full Review

Where we might have expected camp kitsch, we instead find scenes redolent of classic gothic tales and gloomy neo-noirs such as Se7en and True Detective — a series prone to meditations on good and evil, faith and morality. Go to Full Review

Despite strong performances and potent symbolism, Grotesquerie doesn't evolve much past its plodding narrative and scattershot storyline. Go to Full Review

leonard C @leno63 Oct 18, 2026 started off great what a begging only to become predictable and then the whole lois coma thing WTF just stupid what a waste. See more Joseph S @Soulvey Sep 19, 2026 Truly a show that had potential and failed spectacularly to live up to even a gram of it. A plot twist two thirds of the way through makes the whole thing even more of a mess, before veering off a cliff in the finale. A graveyard of missed opportunities. See more Raviteja S @0btseprcsr4 Jan 25, 2026 Absolute garbage of a show. See more Alessia M @goose.bmps Oct 15, 2025 Possible spoilers! This series had enormous potential: the opening is effective and the brutality of the murders immediately grabs your attention. The figure of the serial killer, intertwined with the theme of religiosity, was a clever and promising idea. The problem is that from mid-season onwards, the plot spirals into chaos. It shifts to forced extremization, with plot holes as deep as canyons and creative choices that are, to say the least, questionable. The trailer sells the product as a psychological thriller with horror and almost splatter elements, but —spoiler— halfway through it drastically changes direction, to the point of feeling like misleading advertising. And then the ending is a disaster: wiping out everything that happened with the coma twist feels like a punch in the stomach for the viewer —a downright mockery. As if that weren’t enough, they randomly throw in every currently trending social issue, creating a pretentious mishmash that tries to pass itself off as auteur art without having the substance. See more Georgina W @RT81512343 Sep 10, 2025 You have to get through the first half which seems a bit odd, but then it all comes together. I thought it was great. Original and very dark.
