Critic Reviews for Happy Valley Season 2
All Critics (28) | Top Critics (15) | Fresh (28) | Rotten (0)
In some ways, Happy Valley is a cousin to The Fall, another very worthy British drama about the criminal-detective dance.
TV drama doesn't get better than this.
Happy Valley's emotionally charged second season completely avoided a sophomore slump, and remained compelling.
"Happy Valley" does a fine job of conveying what it's like to be a small-town police officer whose daily rounds allow her to confront the dumb, silly and awful things people do to each other, and to wrestle with what she herself is capable of.
The second season of Happy Valley is now over... it's been so excellent.
All in all, it was just brilliant telly.
At the heart of it all is the splendid Lancashire, incarnating Wainwright's unarguable position that the world is an altogether disappointing place but we struggle on.
Sally Wainwright's writing in Happy Valley continues to leap nimbly from comic to grave.
Yet, once again, the more lurid moments are constantly offset - and sometimes combined - with some neat comedy and plenty of deft humanising touches.
There really isn't time to go into what makes Happy Valley's second series so incredible. Just know this: it is flawless.
Wainwright layers her stories like a tightly structured, best-selling thriller, so as well as the hunt for the murderer, now identified as a serial killer, other interlinked secondary plots are introduced.
The nuances of these intricate family profiles are played with superb subtlety by Lancashire and Finneran.

Sep 01, 2016Awesome series!! One of my favourite ones!! This is not your regular crime drama full of cliches; both, series 1 and 2, were so engaging.. gripping, dark.. beautiful bleakness indeed!! Outstanding performances, especially by Sarah Lancashire. Well done Brits!! Can't wait to see if there's a third series. A must-see for all true crime drama lovers!!

Jun 18, 2016Happy Valley Season 2, 2016 is a fantastic British crime show. Non-Spoiler Alert this has nothing to do with Penn State. Starts out slow and very depressing. It never stops being depressing but the intrigue of the story gets better and better. Hang in there and watch it. Sarah Lancashire is one tough cop and great actress. This one is worth watching.
