Season 2
Hemlock Grove
Hemlock Grove jettisons some of its most grating qualities while doubling down on its splashy gore, making for a more engaging second season -- but the series frustratingly remains a shoddy amalgamation of gothic tropes.

Critic Reviews for Hemlock Grove Season 2
All Critics (11) | Top Critics (6) | Fresh (6) | Rotten (5)
I keep trying to like Hemlock Grove. And failing.
All the stories get flabby along the way, and by season two, the show has more than exhausted itself.
If queasy gore and supernatural mayhem entertain you, who are we to judge? But other shows do it with so much more style and genuine scares.
Hemlock Grove has gone from being absolutely unwatchable to a worthy guilty pleasure.
Hemlock Grove no longer suffers from lethargic pacing, but it's also been scrubbed free of any residual weirdness.
While a loyal contingent was inclined to give Hemlock Grove the benefit of the doubt in a "So bad it's good" way, watching the opening of the second go-round still tips the scales toward so bad -- and boring -- that it's just plain bad.
This show is utter perfection and it should never change.
They're veering off page from the book by Brian McGreevy, and they're going in a positive direction. The world has a become a place I want to know more about.
Season two of Hemlock Grove is more streamlined and quite a bit smarter even if it at times can feel like a New York Times' list of corrections for the previous season.
Fortunately, the second season of the series is off to a great start.
There are deaths, revelations and complete WTF moments buried in the finale for viewers who have been itching for some Hemlock Grove-style weirdness.
Audience Reviews for Hemlock Grove: Season 2

Feb 22, 2021I loved the first season, but the second season was just missing something. I am not sure what, but it didn't have that magic that the first season had. Still very watchable.

Nov 29, 2020It becomes apparent by Season 2 that the nudity is just as gratuitous as the gore. Bear in mind that you will soon be seeing the tits of every single nubile, pretty female introduced in this series. The casting director clearly has a type. The good news is that none of them sport implants.

Sep 24, 2019The show falls into unrelated pieces in season two, where nothing makes sense outside of the very very obvious, which is a huge letdown, given what we were led to believe in season one.

Oct 22, 2018Hemlock Grove is as If Twilight had a gritty television series that simultaneously leaves you on edge, but also leaves you wanting to turn the channel when prototypical things happen. Than again, I dont think Jacob, belle and Edward ever had a threesome. The love triangle that consistently exists between Peter and Roman, whether it be in season 1 with Letha or in season 2 with Miranda, gets annoying and played out. Im giving it 2 stars because the foreshadowing in season 1 was great. But season 2 felt like Netflix was grasping at straws and was trying to tie up the loose ends. Unfortunate to say the least.

Jul 25, 2018Has its moments but generally mediocre. 5/10 Teenagers in the small Pennsylvania town of Hemlock Grove are being murdered by a strange beast. The townsfolk believe it is a werewolf. To them, this makes the prime suspects the local gypsies, and Peter Rumancek in particular. He steadfastly denies that he is the murderer but he harbours a dark secret he is a werewolf. Mediocre. Had some potential to be a edgy supernatural thriller, Stranger Things or True Blood-like (the fact that Alexander Skarsgards brother, Bill, has a leading role in Hemlock Grove helps the True Blood comparison). The murders provide for intrigue but this is substantially diluted by the fact that very little happens in the way of solving the mystery for the first 10 episodes. During that time the series is really just a teen soap-opera, with very limited character engagement. Things do kick up several notches in the final three episodes of Season 1, making the Season worthwhile in the end. With a bit more closure on that season it would have been a decent mini-series. After Season 1 there was nothing new to do, except invent other nasties to terrorise the town, and thats what happens. Add in more soap-opera like sub-plots and its pretty boring stuff. I lasted until Episode 4 of Season 2 before giving up.

Feb 15, 2018Hard to quick binge-watching, a big improvement over the first season.
-
Mar 06, 2017Not as good as the first wish they keep the same sister. But still really good
-
Aug 27, 2016This season really picks up the pace and great performances from the whole cast and lots of twists and turns and a good cliffhanger at the end to keep us all interested

Apr 24, 2015Season 2 more mainstream and coherent than season 1 which is at times compelling and at others annoyingly predictable.. Like the first season it relies on the viewer to notice and interpret symbolism and foreshadowing but it's much more obvious, likely because it's friendlier to the general population of viewers. The drawback is that by doing so it's easy to predict. There are still some shock-weird moments and subtlety that can be missed by a lot of people who watch it. One of my favorite subtle yet cheeky references was the resurrection of sorts of the t cat that Peter had to sacrifice in season 1- Hello Pussybird! Besides the literal taxidermy flying above Peters head "Pussybird" also means a cowardly individual, mostly male, used to provoke an individual into committing to something he doesn't want to do.

Sep 23, 2014Rotten tomatoes critics are usually cock suckers. I don't think I have ever agreed with any critic reviews. The first season was suspect but it wasn't that bad. They could have cut like 2 or 3 episodes. The second season is probably five times better. When I say most of these critics I am talking to people like you Brian Lowry. I hope you get the clap from a cheap hooker.
