High Fidelity: Season 1 (2020)

Season 1
High Fidelity

Critics Consensus

Though it skips the occasional beat, High Fidelity's fresh take on a familiar track is as witty as it is emotionally charged, giving a curmudgeonly charming Zoë Kravitz plenty of room to shine.

[An] empathetic, textured, funny, surprising, and affectionate reimagining.

Feb 14, 2020 | Full Review…

That track is, mostly, very lovely, a searching and sweet love song anchored by wonderfully unshowy performances from Kravitz and Holmes and a wonderfully showy one from Randolph.

[A] slow-growing pleasure that does justice to them bones.

Feb 13, 2020 | Full Review…

[It] does, refreshingly, correct the exclusionary spirit that went with the original's lack of diversity. Yet crucially, the series retains the assurance that music preferences reflect something individual, ineffable, soul-deep, and in need of sharing.

Successfully reflects modern dating in terms of the evolution of courtship and commitment... In other words, it's a worthwhile remix.

The creators of this "High Fidelity" TV series fail to expand on the material to the point where 10 episodes can be sustained.

If nothing else, what you'll take away from this entertaining series is that you can judge a person by their playlist.

Transcending the stereotypes of the original film, Hulu's High Fidelity takes the narrative to a new place while revisiting how music shapes our outlook on relationships, the world and who we are.

Zoe Kravitz's performance immediately had many of us nerding out and loving her alternative Black girl vibes.

I felt let down by High Fidelity...

The best decision the producers of the new High Fidelity made was casting Zoë Kravitz as Rob (short for Robyn).

I hope audiences connect enough with Zoe Kravitz's character to allow this show to continue so the writers can go a little bit further below the surface they barely scratch in this first season.

Audience Reviews for High Fidelity: Season 1

  • Sep 20, 2020
High Fidelity's best feature is the soundtrack. An easy to watch rom-com.

Basically drawing influence from the John Cusack movie which I wasn't a fan of This series on Hulu is a much better iteration Zoe Kravitz is such a delight to watch as Rob, she talks to the viewer whilst all the romantic happenings are either building up around her or crumbling down Each track of music playing matches the scenario she's in Mainly she's still reeling from splitting from her fiancé desperate to understand why it fell through in the first place Going from relationship to relationship is prolly not the best idea and even she knows it Can she ever find something that suits her or is she too much of a introvert that doesn't do well with sharing her thoughts and feelings on certain things? Zoe Kravitz is the real reason to watch this because it allows her to get a lot more range in a genre that gets overlooked too often with modern dating, relationships, love, heartbreak and commitment

I watched the movie years ago and I loved it . I never thought I'd say it, but this show does it justice.
  • Aug 14, 2020
    They will remake anything.
  • Jul 22, 2020
It's similar to many comedian romantic movies but made as a tv show. Maybe if I did not watch movies like this show maybe I would change my opinion but still, this type of stories can't be scaled up to be suitable for 10 or more episodes it's a pixelated show

Another piss poor attempt to make a series out of a movie. The movie was okay, this series blows.

don't think much of zoe kravitz as an actress but she suited the role of the main in this perfectly with her effortless cool. she is living a very privileged life with her beauty and charm...allowing her to treat the people in her life with less respect than they deserve all while being incredibly narcissistic. i'm not interested in a season 2 but it was interesting enough i watched the whole season. never saw the movie it was based off of in it's entirety though i watched enough to know that she does Rob justice. She is just as self absorbed and as big of an asshole as John Cusack's original. also i appreciate her as Rob - think it's a nice nod to her mama. Who - i find it very hard to believe - would ever be interested in John Cusack's rob.

Ok, first of all...it's not a bad show overall. But I really HATED the main character. She is soooo selfish. But hey...I guess that's what people find interesting...a flawed character. In my opinion, the movie is so much better. I'd suggest watching that instead..but hey...I have a feeling most people will disagree with me on this one.

A well-executed nod to Spike Lee and his She Gotta Have It. A good first season but there is still so much depth to these characters that the audience is left wanting to see.

I loved High Fidelity the movie and this series just improves on the movie. It starts strong and just gets better and better. Zoe Kravitz as Rob is a true star. You cannot take your eyes off of her when she's on camera. The writing is very funny and also very poignant, which is tough to do. Rob's two employees Charise and Simon are just great. In fact, the casting director should get a lot of credit because everyone in this show is great. Jake Lacy as the nice, handsome doormat Clyde is especially good. It's just a great pleasure to watch such a smart, funny show that trusts its audience to follow along. Here's hoping Season 2 will be announced soon (as of 6/8/2020 no word on whether there will be a Season 2). It's probably best to watch the movie before you watch this but it is great either way.
