High Fidelity: Season 1 (2020)

Season 1
High Fidelity

Critics Consensus

Though it skips the occasional beat, High Fidelity's fresh take on a familiar track is as witty as it is emotionally charged, giving a curmudgeonly charming Zoë Kravitz plenty of room to shine.

Successfully reflects modern dating in terms of the evolution of courtship and commitment... In other words, it's a worthwhile remix.

So for a series that so often operates in tandem with the music playing in the background, "High Fidelity" has a consistent rhythm that's flexible enough to bend with the demands of each passing episode.

[An] empathetic, textured, funny, surprising, and affectionate reimagining.

That track is, mostly, very lovely, a searching and sweet love song anchored by wonderfully unshowy performances from Kravitz and Holmes and a wonderfully showy one from Randolph.

The creators of this "High Fidelity" TV series fail to expand on the material to the point where 10 episodes can be sustained.

Aside from being a fun, likable show, High Fidelity takes on the often difficult task of examining what it means to be a bad person, and when, and how much, that makes someone less deserving of love.

High Fidelity is a gorgeous piece of fourth wall-breaking piece of millennial existential angst.

High Fidelity makes great use of Zoe Kravitz and a slew of talented actors while using music geekery to weave together a truly authentic story of heartbreak and arrested development.

Feb 18, 2020 | Rating: 7/10 | Full Review…

Kravitz's Rob may seem too cool for the most of us, and can be insufferable in her own way, but regardless High Fidelity makes you want to see her heartbreak through even if her Top Five Exes can't.

It's an easy binge because of its tone and humorous millennial despair.

As a person who is old enough to remember the movie, at first, I was skeptical about the redux. However, when I watched the first episode I was pleasantly surprised. I love everything about this -- each character gives me so much energy and whimsy. Rob and Mac (Kravitz and Adir) have great chemistry. Da'Vine Joy Randolph steals all of the scenes she's in!

This is the show to watch if you, love the book/original film and/or love vinyl. This show kept the spirit of the film/book so good even with a total gender reversal. Zoe is excellent as Rob! This is the best acting she's done in her career and I can tell she was determine to really channel this character. The world built around her and the people in her life just ooze the classic 2000 film. And, thank you for having the stones to keep her character a cigarette smoker. I understand the world's stance on smoking these days, but its literally part of her character and the story and helps make her plight seem more realistic. I like the decision to set the series in New York. It gives the entire story in all three mediums a more anthological feel. The book being London, the film Chicago, and now New York. This story is very personal and should be seen by anyone who has ever asked a question about a past relationship. Its hilarious, involving, meaningful, real, raw, and completely engrossing. Check this show out on Hulu now! Its such a great watch and an even better binge.

Love this show! I'm in my mid 50s & it's a great relaxing vibe thruout. Zoë is perfect, of course, and all the characters blend well. Props!

I'm a big fan of the movie version and it took an episode or 2 to adjust, but once I did, I loved the new show. Look forward to a second season!

Love everything about this show. It had me hooked from the pilot with its soundtrack and vibrant characters. Zoe Kravitz is a charming lead, whose character comes off as intelligent and confident, neurotic but not self-pitying.

As the episodes went by I was driven to see what was happening next with rob. This show was worth all 10 episodes some moments were expected but kept me interested. The crew of the cast I give all of them a 10. I'm hoping there's a season 2 rob had this vibe and it wasn't only her her cast members too.. I'd recommend this show. If only they made more episodes... till next time hopefully with a season 2

I've read the book and seen the movie, and love this take. Zoe Kravitz and the amazing cast bring these flawed humans who are getting through life while trying to get to a better state of being to live in such a vivid way. You really feel the intensity and heartbreak and humor of these characters, who are shown to be kind and loving and broken and sometimes assholes who just make mistakes and try to learn. Kinda like actual people, huh? The music choices add a whole different level of experience, brilliant selections without overpowering the performances or manipulating the viewer. Loved every moment!

Needless remake - a bad one.

Okay, so I've never seen the movie version of High Fidelity. The only reason I started watching the show is because I love Zoe Kravitz. There's something about her that whenever I watch her on television, she makes me feel so calm & cool. Anyways, I was hooked after episode one. It leaves you wanting more after every episode. Everyone is such a great actor in it & you really make a connection with each & every character. The music just connects it all together but it also doesn't overshadow the story that's taking place. I know this show just came out but I already can't wait for season 2.
