Season 1
Hitmen

Critics Consensus

Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins's comedic skills remain sharp, but with uneven sketches and underwritten characters, Hitmen can't quite hit its mark.

Critic Reviews for Hitmen Season 1

All Critics (19) | Top Critics (7)

It's amusing alone to see [Giedroyc and Perkins] here as neurotic daytime killers, even if their comic scenarios here can be big misses or big hits.

Aug 5, 2020 | Full Review…

They may play killers, but the kind who keep the actors well within the brand they've built over their 32-year friendship and professional partnership. Plus the humor is, well, adorable.

Aug 6, 2020 | Full Review…

Most of the guest actors fail to transcend their stock characters, which means being stuck for 20 or so minutes with a sketch-comedy conceit that refuses to deepen into anything more layered or nuanced.

Aug 4, 2020 | Full Review…

It's absurd, it's dark, it has no soft centre at all - it feels as if it's made for these times.

Mar 30, 2020 | Full Review…

The chemistry between Mel and Sue is well established, and while Hitmen is an easy way to enjoyably pass the time, there's not much more to it than that. For a show about paid killer, it is incredibly light.

Aug 12, 2020 | Full Review…

[It's an] an inoffensive and frothy series that never quite manages to be more than the sum of its parts.

Aug 10, 2020 | Full Review…

You may not find yourself highly invested, but the show offers a few hours of breezily funny entertainment, and in this case, that's more than enough to make Hitmen worth checking out.

Aug 7, 2020 | Full Review…

The series isn't great, but it's just fine. It coasts entirely on the charm of these two, and whether or not you are watching specifically for them.

Aug 7, 2020 | Rating: 6.8/10 | Full Review…

The pieces are there for a really fun dark comedy. But things just may need time to come together.

Aug 6, 2020 | Full Review…

Hitmen isn't groundbreaking by any means, but it's a solid, cozy binge-watch, particularly for fans of Mel and Sue, and anyone who enjoys a good musical montage.

Aug 6, 2020 | Full Review…

You can't help but wish there was more of Hitmen, but then again you can't help but wonder if it would have just ended up as more of the same.

Aug 5, 2020 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

The humor is darker than a witch's heart, most of it consisting of pranks played on people who are about to have their brains blown out. Surprisingly, this gets old after about the first five minutes.
