Davis is so magnetic. But there's some logic issues that are hard to get over.

In "The Paper Chase," the legendary John Houseman gave life to a law professor who is both character and cataclysmic event.

It is simultaneously totally fun and somehow wan: kicky and fast and, so far, just a copycat.

A few minutes in, and you can sense a promise of sex, surprises, and a healthy dose of fun. And so far, the show delivers. You want a shot at a hit, that's how you do it.

Davis is strong, but I'm not signing up for a season pass just yet.

If you care about law -- or even complex characters -- this isn't the show for you. Filled with more twists than a bowl of fusilli... a blithely shameless romp whose plotting wants to get away with murder, too.

With breakneck pacing, a brash sense of style and a bold Viola Davis burning up the screen, How to Get Away with Murder is dazzling television that could benefit from more leisurely, character-driven storytelling.

The bright spot of the show is most certainly Viola Davis. She is marvelous in the premiere episode, as we all expected her to be. Davis is a talented actress with a commanding on-screen presence who sizzles in this project.

It will live or die, so to speak, on its shrewd intertwining of characters' personal and professional experiences-the very sort of intertwining that Rhimes' other shows have accomplished repeatedly.
