In the series premiere, a troubled Baltimore FBI agent becomes involved with a secret government unit assembled to hunt a group of ruthless terrorists, who may or may not be from this world, and who may or may not be involved in his wife's disappearance.
Innocent civilians are killed as a result of Hunters bombing random targets on U.S. soil. An investigation is led by Flynn and ETU, revealing that human collaborators are involved in these terrorist acts. But the reason that Flynn's wife was kidnapped still remains a mystery.
A new lead sends the ETU team to a Hunter-run drug camp in the jungles of Colombia, while Regan struggles with her past.
The ETU capture their greatest asset yet; Jackson goes against his morals to combat the Hunter threat; and McCarthy makes it known the lengths he will go to protect his kind.
Flynn stumbles upon startling new information about his wife, which leads the ETU to a suspected human-hunter collaborator, while Flynn finds himself in an unexpected confrontation.
The ETU's discovery of the name and suspected location of a High Value Target, dredges up old memories for Jackson. Meanwhile, Flynn, Regan and Briggs attempt a daring raid on a Turkish prison.
The Hunters attempt to "reprogram" a captive Regan. While the ETU work to locate their missing agent, they deal with the possibility that there could be a mole in their ranks.
Regan discovers that she wasn't told the truth about her father's disappearance. Meanwhile, Flynn and Briggs race against the Hunters to acquire a scientist critical to "The Purge."
Abby's loyalty is tested; Flynn hits rock bottom; and Regan ends up bargaining one family member's fate in order to gain another's freedom.
Flynn's past becomes dangerously present; and Emme ends up putting her life at risk as she continues to investigate Abby.

Critic Reviews for Hunters (2016) Season 1

Honestly, I seldom had any idea what was going on in the first hour of Hunters, which flashes back and forward and features hallucinations and nightmares, with action shot mostly in the dark.
Clunky dialogue and an uninspired visual style seal 'Hunters' fate, despite McMahon's best efforts.
I'm not sure if there'll be a person in America who'll feel emotionally invested in Flynn's plight. And if the series is meant to be any metaphorical commentary on our real-world war on terrorism, well, that's not immediately evident either.
Hunters is a dour sci-fi procedural whose every story beat is joylessly copied from more interesting shows, and whose pretensions toward political allegory are too simplistic to be truly offensive.
Hunters seems as if it might be too convoluted and coy to be worth the mental energy.
Things get bloody but boring in the war on alien terror.
Grim, humorless, and instantly off-putting -- the shot of a naked, bloody woman being kept prisoner in a cage is your early warning -- Hunters is a misfire from the Syfy network.
Based on the first episode, Hunters is a really bad series bogged down with mediocre aspirations, pathetic execution, and a student-film budget.
Hunters borrows many familiar beats from other TV shows and films. Too bad it doesn't weave those samples into a wholly original or inspiring new tune.
Why are they here and what do they want? I watched a couple of hours of this dreck and I have no clue.
The show's best attribute is the sound effect that makes good use of a bug-like clicking noise to represent the aliens. But that's not enough to recommend this blah, bungled effort.
Not even an anti-terrorism hero as dynamic as Jack Bauer could bring life to a project as numbingly generic as Syfy's dreary Hunters.
Audience Reviews for Hunters (2016): Season 1
-
Feb 24, 2020Ridiculous. Can't believe Jordan Peele is responsible for this trash.
-
Feb 23, 2020How is it that every show the critics hate, and the audience likes/ turns out to be good show? Applies here, again.
-
Jul 28, 2016Somebody at SyFy forgot to pay "Top Critics / Paid Critics" to write a review. Hunters was a little slow the first few episodes; however, picked up as it got into the back stories of the characters. Sad, very sad we will not get a season 2.

Jul 24, 2016Good show with potential for more.
-
Jul 11, 2016Pretty awesome. Cool action scenes. 9/10

Jun 28, 2016It's a good sci-fi tv series. It has a certain je ne sais quoi, a good suspense and intrigue that can captivate the audience
-
Jun 17, 2016I don't know why the critics panned it . I thought it was pretty good.
-
Jun 09, 2016There are things I find about this series interesting. I'm at episode 5 and feel like its better than what a lot of the critics are saying. There are obvious annoyances that would be spoilers so I'll not mention them. It might be that I'm just in need of something new so it seems better than it is. I do like the language that they've created, but I dislike the obvious rips from Predator or Star Trek Voyager's hunters.

May 31, 2016Overall this is an AWESOME SHOW! Given the absolute garbage that gets ratings, including some SyFy shows, I am beyond convinced America is a nation of dolts, morons and imbeciles!!
-
May 30, 2016not that bad at all. Nice acting from Britne Oldford & Nathan Phillips.
