Dramatically there are two shows happening simultaneously: a rather pantomime potboiler, and a more refined dynastic drama. As a result, the show feels like it was assembled from slightly disconnected parts. Go to Full Review

It’s a riot of fun because Lang’s characters are believable, the show rips along and it’s beautifully shot. Go to Full Review

Narratively bold, we meet many of the key characters in skilfully written flash forward, documentary-style interviews which give quite a bit of the game away. Go to Full Review

Family members await their part a fortune. No one gets what they expected. What a dangerous, fun, head spinning mess! And it only gets faster and furious-er. Go to Full Review

As a character study and a family drama, it works, with enough twists and turns to keep thing interesting. Go to Full Review

Craig M @Egdod Sep 3, 2026 Entertaining Agatha Christie-lite with amusing twists and reveals. Annoying cliffhanger ending….but that’s the way of the world now. See more Alain E @AlainE Aug 23, 2026 Full disclosure: I am not angry that the series ends with an unresolved question or two. It’s not the first to use this device. Until we get to the very end the proceedings are quite absorbing. Maybe the male detective’s family situation was a little cliche. With the exception of Rose’s, every other couple is an example of some sort of deception. Also, I am not sure a single episode of touching would have that long lasting consequences. Overall acting and photography are very good. We have of course another puzzle when we see Sally behind bars. Did she kill her French lover? We need to keep watching! The way the series has gone Rose could have made a false confession knowing that she is terminally ill. See more Dave R @Ramdog Aug 19, 2026 Good cast and a storyline that keeps you engaged, without being rivetting, BUT, and it's the reason I'm here, the absence of a resolution to the major plot element is appalling and I won't be watching the second series on principle. You're asked to watch 6 episodes based on an unspoken but traditional promise that there will be an answer to the major plot line even if there are elements, existing or newly created, to warrant a second series. Few series break that promise but this one does and does so spectacularly, leaving the viewer disappointed and with a sense of being conned into wasting c5hrs of their life. Prison Break did this at the end of series 1 and I hated it then as much as I do now. Terrible decision making by all involved. See more Rebekah S @RT62929318 Aug 5, 2026 This could have been much better. The most annoying part is that it dn't have an ending. At the end of series one, you have to watch series 2 which is coming soon to get a conclusion. a show should have a start a middle and an end. So I won't be watching series 2 to find out. Full of cliched characters, John Simm is the bad northerner etc. don't bother See more Frankie H @Frankiestein Jul 22, 2026 It was OK but the cliffhanger at the end was a total cop out - I am so incensed that I wasted my time watching it, only to be toyed with. Don't make my mistake See more Jonathan S @Jon726 Jul 21, 2026 The cast looked promising, although the best known actor, Trevor Eve, hardly appears on screen. What I found unbelievable was that any family could contain so many liars, cheats, criminals and addicts as the Wrights. I expected the six episode series to come to a satisfactory conclusion, and completely agree with other comments that to leave all the explanations of motive and perpetrator until a second series is to let the viewers down. Perhaps the writer has woven such a tangled web that he hasn't sorted it out yet. It is unlikely that I shall bother to watch the continuation. See more Read all reviews
