Johnny Symons addresses the controversial topic of adoptive gay parents in the film Daddy and Papa. Symons, himself an adoptive father with his partner, interviews a handful of male and female homosexuals who are or wish to be parents. One of the major sources of conflict in the film is that Symons' son Zachery had been in the foster home of fundamentalist Christians who strongly disagreed with gay men adopting him. The film attempts to tell many stories, including the sad tale of a nine-year-old girl who was adopted by two gay men who soon ended their relationship. Daddy and Papa was screened at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival.
