The three excellent main performances are stronger than the writing: like good sculptors McClure, Best and Marshal use their skill to carve depths into shallow matter. Go to Full Review
Hugo Rifkind The Times (UK) 05/25/2024
Insomnia [is] one of those quite annoying “just tell us what bloody happened!” dramas, in which the tension largely comes from stuff that lots of the characters know, but the script has deemed the audience should not. Go to Full Review
Carol Midgley The Times (UK) 05/23/2024

It’s a daft ride but a well-acted one. Go to Full Review
Adam Sweeting The Arts Desk Jul 10

The supernatural dimension which helps make the opening episodes so gripping disappears for a while in later instalments, only to make a powerful late comeback which makes you realise what you’ve been missing. Go to Full Review
Tilly Pearce Radio Times 07/02/2024
3/5
The faults in Insomnia don't make the ride any less compelling and enjoyable, but it does bring you back down to Earth with a thud as the dissatisfaction sets in. Go to Full Review
Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) 05/31/2024
Trouble is, scenes of someone walking around a darkened house unable to sleep are not naturally gripping. Indeed, they tend to send viewers to sleep. Go to Full Review

Chris T @RT52357940 Jul 25 Absolute Nonsense, does not make sense, a story for the sake of a few ideas, codswallop, give it a miss, or you will regret it. See more Dan B @RT54415027 Jul 16 I stuck with this until the end, only because I'd invested some time in it. The storyline was very slow and I spent a lot of time thinking 'That would never have happened'. I like a thriller to have some elements of believability. It became too ridiculous. Why the Vicky McClure character stayed away from her own home so long made no sense at all. Why the daughters boyfriend turned up near the end also made no sense. If there's nothing else on give it a try but it's just ok. See more Barrie S @Barrieboy Jul 8 I managed to watch the first 30 minutes before the f word saturation level became too much. I’ve got more important/interesting things to do & programmes/films to watch than this potentially good mystery mired in squalid language. It’s time these writers & actors stopped behaving as if they’re still immature adolescents. Time to grow up. See more Mehr D @RT76379094 08/08/2024 A shabby plot and a very poor script held together only by the performance of the exceptional actors! Waste of time. See more Jane T @RT76195475 06/23/2024 Vicky McClure was great in Line of Duty opposite Martin Compston. But "Insomnia" was just a giant monotonous mess. Not only were the false leads predictable, but the pacing was strangely dull for a thriller. The "surprise" about the mother and kids reciting numbers is so puerile and just tacked on to make an otherwise dull, predictable story seem more chilling. Avoid! See more Monkorn U @RT08156937 06/20/2024 The premise is preposterous, despite the good acting from the overall casts. See more Read all reviews
