Scenes are well-set even if aggression only reaches so far, but concerning Into The Dark's young roster, New Year, New You is a favorably dangerous soirée worth a brisk 80ish minutes of persuasive party paranoia.

Overall, NEW YEAR, NEW YOU is a decent slasher flick that tackles the cliches that the New Year can bring with it and successfully turns those cliches over on their respective heads.

The satirical elements are strong. But "New Year, New You" mainly works well when it isn't too broad.

There's more than enough material to last this story and at no point does it feel like the episode is padded for content.

Takal effectively plays with the notion of who the antagonist is here, and throws an unexpected turn into the story near the hour mark.

New Year, New You might not catch your attention right away, but once you give it a chance the cat and mouse chase will have you hooked.

This isn't Takal's best work, but it still deserves a "like" from genre fans tired of the same monsters and killers they always see.

What's most enthralling about this lean and mean thriller is its characters. There's something chillingly familiar in each.

Takal's directorial ability may keep "New Year, New You" from being the worst Into the Dark yet, but its dull tropes and scene-chomping acting are resolutely rotten.

For a movie that is mostly a genre riff, New Year, New You invests in the details and succeeds as a result.

It's difficult to say anymore without spoiling the film's various twists, but the way Chaikin keeps us guessing at Danielle's true nature alone makes [it] worth watching.

This isn't a bad way for genre nuts to start the new year.

They're showing us a glimpse at the monsters we all have the potential to become if one lucky break arrives to change the course of our future for the better.
