By all rights, this show is about two years too late. The 2020 internet buzz of slicing into hyperrealistic baking goods has long died out. On its face, the concept of Is it Cake? is truly absurd: Can judges guess which object is made of cake and which is a real object? It might have been watchable, but barely, if they’d limited each episode to 20 minutes or so, reconfigured the format completely, and spared Mikey Day from this humiliation, but at nearly 40 minutes an episode, Is It Cake? is both awful and interminable. I also like the editing choices (in most cases) and also the way the show is set out. I especially like the fact they show you the contestants baking their cakes and the processes they go though. However, I do find the host to be quite obnoxious as an adult viewer. Maybe this is to appeal to children however I believe that if Mikey Day (who I'm sure is a nice person) dialled back the cringe worthy jokes (which often times aren't funny and fall flat on their face in an unsatisfying way) then this show would have way higher ratings. This would also be the case for my rating, but since the host plays such a large part in the series, it's hard to not put the series down for it, which sucks! Not my normal type but it was good family fun… my son really loved it more. That was up until the red cups. Andrew is a talented guy for sure. But those red cups was the 3rd best on the set. It seemed set up, and I can't stand set up shows. At least hide it a little better. I personally liked the host as well. Again not my type of comedy, but he did make the show fun. The reviews I've seen against him are weird lol people you know was the bummer at a party. "NOO. First, the contestant bake a cake for about 10 hours and the judge has to figure out which is cake and which is real, and once the judge figure out, the host sliced the cake and plays with it, basically wasting food and the whole show is just cringe.
