There's a reason this show has lasted five... seasons, and it's because these lazy, stupid, insensitive bastards are worse people than the cast of Seinfeld, if that's actually possible, and yet they're so much more loveable.

Television Without Pity

They've created a niche show full of conniving, backstabbing yet lovable characters so they might as well follow their formula and wring out all the comedy they can.

IGN Movies

There were a lot of gimmick-lite plots that sometimes didn't cohere all too clearly but always had enough straight comedy to prop them up.

Season 5 brings more of the same, but the characters are so well delineated and the performances are so solid that more of the same is a good thing.

Sunny may not be the most highbrow comedy on television, but it's arguably the one with the highest density of actual laughs.

Audience Reviews for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 5

½

FX's hit sitcom It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia serves up some incredibly irreverent and outlandish comedy as it enters into its fifth season. The characters go full blown cartoony this season as Charlie, Mac, and Frank are dumbed down, but the series has gradually been moving in this direction; so its feels like a nature progression. And, the episodes themselves get pretty zany as Mac and Charlie write a movie, Dennis reveals his 100% foolproof system of seduction, and the gang competes to merchandize Paddy's Pub paraphernalia. It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia continues to get more outrageous in Season 5, and while there are diminishing returns there are also a lot of laughs.
