Despite a structure that is perhaps too beholden to streaming conventions, it’s an ambitious story that doesn’t talk down to its audience. Go to Full Review

Another key theme to Afrofuturism that we can see present in the show is that of liberation as it allows the imagination of a future that is free of hierarchies of race, gender, class, and sexuality. Go to Full Review

Iwájú is a highly enjoyable-yet-brief sci-fi adventure bolstered by a unique Afrofuturistic lens. Go to Full Review

Iwájú is a Yoruba word that can be translated to “future” and this bright, little show might just be the future of the miniseries concept. It’s one of the greatest examples of the modern miniseries (alternatively limited series) I’ve seen recently. Go to Full Review

Iwájú tells a predictable story on the surface, but its themes of class and charming characters make this series set in futuristic Nigeria stand out. Go to Full Review

It's hard to think of an American-produced kids' series that places such a magnifying glass on our own racial and class realities. Iwájú has many sparks of good ideas, but falls a bit flat in execution. Go to Full Review

Ilyas Z @Zellai Feb 11 This Show Is An UNHINGED MESS. See more waffle m @Beebs-2 08/17/2024 animation and storytelling is beautiful and well done. wonderful soundtrack and voice acting. I NEED MORE See more Ceasar S @Ceasar554 07/02/2024 The cultural references and the homogenous cast kind of made me feel like we were not the intended audience. I imagine acid watching it could certainly feel excluded. The story was OK. The characters also all felt kind of the same. See more Grace K @RT67487043 05/26/2024 Completely enjoyed watching this. The culture reference was educational. See more Jacob B @RT89309114 05/02/2024 A step in the right direction for Disney, Iwaju probably could've benefitted from a longer episode count but the good animation, memorable characters, solid storytelling + character development and its focus on Nigerian culture (tell me you don't have a desire to have a slice of agege bread after you see this miniseries) suggest that WDAS isn't down for the count just yet...and also come to the conclusion that it's okay to collaborate with others/let other people in. Maybe it's these partnerships with small companies that will get them out of the creative rut they're currently in. They certainly could use a "win-back-the-crowd" type-of thing while they're busy licking their wounds from Wish's failure to become the next Frozen. See more Yongma L @RT89143519 04/12/2024 The miniseries could be the push in the right direction for disney. See more Read all reviews
