News & Interviews for Marvel's Jessica Jones: Season 1
It is a Marvel piece more concerned with aftermath than origin, which is a major change of pace for the brand.
Netflix's Jessica Jones is a proud addition to that pantheon, wrapping one of the best TV shows of the year in a woman's struggle to defeat the abuser who nearly ruined her life.
Jessica Jones is well-executed on the level we've come to expect from Netflix-produced series, featuring a top-notch cast, solid writing and great use of its New York location to invoke both classic noir and '70s cinema.
Jessica Jones is more psychologically complex, acknowledging how painful it can be to flee, to be free - even when you have an iron fist.
The cast treats the dime-novel dialogue ("I don't flirt. I just say what I want.") with such richness that you won't miss the explosions that often deafen other shows in the genre.
This was one of those weird premiere deals where I was not feeling the first half, and absolutely 100% down by the end of the second.
For me, Jessica Jones is perfect because it's the opposite of Marvel's usual superhero fluff in almost every way.
I liked the new Netflix series Jessica Jones-but while watching it, I was plagued by one nagging question. Why didn't Jessica Jones, or somebody, ask Iron Man to take out Killgrave?
There's something about Jessica Jones, played expertly on Netflix by Krysten Ritter, that makes me want to get up and shout, "Hell yes!"
Jessica Jones manages to be faithful to Brian Michael Bendis comic books and, at the same time, to get a fresh and fun take on a complex and dark character. [Full review in Spanish]
Jessica Jones walks a fine line in engaging me on dramatic, emotional and thematic levels while not making me feel overwhelmed by the constant assault on my senses.
Audience Reviews for Marvel's Jessica Jones: Season 1
Mar 28, 2021A great character representation other than Jessica the connection to Captain America, and Avengers although not explored ell done. The idea, not your normal detective, very good at the work she does the great representation of a dark and moody world where there is a price for being a hero, whilst showing a narrative cold and very dark. Great shame the series couldn't get a fourth season and develop her powers more.
Feb 18, 2021The first 2/3 of the season was really something -- the noir characterization, woman-led detective yarn, exploration of PTSD, and the chilling nature of Kilgrave as a villain really worked. Something was lost in the last few episodes -- there was a bit of marking time, and climax wasn't as dramatic as I had expected from the setup.
Jan 07, 2021I really needed time to get in this one, but as the show goes on and we know the characters better and we're fully involved, the show seems good. What sticks out the most is Tennants' crazy maniacally played villain and Ritter's sarcastically played private investigator.
Jan 04, 2021The first season is the best because it has a very interesting and unique villain played by the extremely talented David Tennant. Excellent story and twists. Season one Jessica Jones is top-notch quality. If it isn't better than Daredevil, it's on par with it.

Dec 10, 2020Like before I finally watch marvel
Nov 13, 2020David Tennant as Kilgrave is brilliant! He made kilgrave existence in the series overshadowing Jessica Jones character. The plot was excellent, quite deep and dark.
Oct 25, 2020I'm on a mission to watch all the MCU movies in order and landed on this series. I debated with myself whether to keep watching after I finished the first episode because I wasn't impressed. After watching the second episode, I watched through the series non stop. It's probably the darkest I've seen Marvel do so far in the time line, many scenes that make you cringe, but it has a gripping story that you have to see to the end of the season. Very unexpected, since I don't follow comics that closely, I never heard of the character. Worth a watch, but only recommend for mature adults.
Oct 06, 2020If you make it past the first episode you'll be glad you did! Great show and the best season of the series.
Sep 13, 2020Jessica Jones is my 2nd favorite Marvel show, my 3rd favorite new show of 2015, and one of my top 5 favorite superhero shows. The classic detective/noir style, theme, and tone of the show is outstanding, I love it. Krysten Ritter's performance is exceptional, she gives a powerful, deep, and complex performance. The other performances from David Tennant, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty, Rachael Taylor, and Colby Minifie were phenomenal. The writing is remarkable especially the way they approach, depict, and touch on dark subjects like rape, PTSD, emotional and mental trauma, and assault that most shows are to scared to especially Marvel and superhero shows. The music is stupendous. The costumes were excellent especially on Krysten Ritter and Rachael Taylor. An A+ first season.
