It is a Marvel piece more concerned with aftermath than origin, which is a major change of pace for the brand.

Jessica Jones is well-executed on the level we've come to expect from Netflix-produced series, featuring a top-notch cast, solid writing and great use of its New York location to invoke both classic noir and '70s cinema.

Jessica Jones is more psychologically complex, acknowledging how painful it can be to flee, to be free - even when you have an iron fist.

The cast treats the dime-novel dialogue ("I don't flirt. I just say what I want.") with such richness that you won't miss the explosions that often deafen other shows in the genre.

This was one of those weird premiere deals where I was not feeling the first half, and absolutely 100% down by the end of the second.

Netflix's Jessica Jones is a proud addition to that pantheon, wrapping one of the best TV shows of the year in a woman's struggle to defeat the abuser who nearly ruined her life.

Kristen Ritter's performance as the titular hero, who resists her calling at every turn, is truly stunning to watch. Each episode charts her inner struggle to winning effect, and sheds a light on the true consequences of trauma.

I liked the new Netflix series Jessica Jones-but while watching it, I was plagued by one nagging question. Why didn't Jessica Jones, or somebody, ask Iron Man to take out Killgrave?

There's something about Jessica Jones, played expertly on Netflix by Krysten Ritter, that makes me want to get up and shout, "Hell yes!"

Jessica Jones manages to be faithful to Brian Michael Bendis comic books and, at the same time, to get a fresh and fun take on a complex and dark character. [Full review in Spanish]

Jessica Jones walks a fine line in engaging me on dramatic, emotional and thematic levels while not making me feel overwhelmed by the constant assault on my senses.

For me, Jessica Jones is perfect because it's the opposite of Marvel's usual superhero fluff in almost every way.

Audience Reviews for Marvel's Jessica Jones: Season 1

This was so boring compared to Daredevil S1 and S2 which I watched beforehand. The pacing was snail pace. Jessica is unlikeable. We hardly see her powers in use at all. No good characters at all except maybe Luke Cage cameos. Watch out for a prolonged awkward sex scene. Only forced myself to watch it so could then watch Defenders which I've almost finished and is way better than JJ (but still no where near as good as Daredevil!). Tennant isnt too bad as Kilgrave but he doesn't seem to go anywhere with his power except maybe the last couple of episodes. Jessica could have taken him out so much earlier thus saving us from a coma induced series. This felt like it was written by a teen Twilight fangirl. Avoid.

After re-watching all of the first seasons of all of the Marvel Netflix shows I can say based on story alone this was the most captivating. Kilgrave as a villain is with out a doubt one of my personal favorite Superhero villains I've ever watched. Every scene he is in is perfect. I would say the only thing that holds the show back is the supporting cast feeling mostly in the way. I also don't really find Jessica herself to be that interesting. She certainly isn't bad, she's just serviceable as a protagonist. Which is kind of a problem when you have an antagonist this great, he outshines the hero. That all being said this was the one I was most happy I gave another watch to.

    Love her humor and sarcasm.

Forced diversity, representation quotas and inter-sectional politics is not desired in entertainment. The only thing that makes the show tolerable is looking past the BS and knowing it is a nonsense narrative that is being pushed in all areas of politics, entertainment, media, social media and virtually every establishment. That is the ONLY why I didn't give is the lowest rating.

Really loved this first series. Great incarnation of the Marvel universe, strong characters and story line. David Tennant as the villain is fantastic. I enjoyed every episode and I'm looking forward to watch the next 2 seasons.

Spanning over three years just like Daredevil in my opinion is just as great as daredevil. Now the show is over and I have finished all 39 episodes I can proudly say this a delight to watch. This show is amazing in many qualities such as great characters from heroes to villains, Jessica is a great protagonist for this as the way faces problems combined with the villains for the seasons. The villains on this show are just as great as Jessica in Opinion the best villain is season 1's Kilgrave, Kilgrave is a great antoganist to Jessica and there past together makes their communications even more interesting they also Mage his powers feel very realistic to the show. Other villains to show are great Alisa Jones and Salinger are also great villains to Jessica. In this show the acting is great as well [Krysten Ritter, David Tennant, Eka Darville, Carrie Ann Moss and Jeremy Bobb are among the best in the show.]. The stories in this show great for each season with twists and turns to keep on the edge of your seat for a majority of the show. Aswell as all the great one tiny complaint I have is in the second season sometimes it felt it was dragging but apart from that this show is one of the best I've seen.

Pimarily worth watching because of the performances of the lead and especially David Tennant as the villain. Some decent supporting cast with not enough to do. Sex scenes that tend to go a bit too far with no reason for being there other that to titilate.
  • Jul 16, 2019
At the beginning I was a bit disappointed of the intro and everything else, but later I realized again, that the intro changes my mood to the shows mood and thats why I began to like it. David Tennant, who played the villain, played also Barty Crouch Jr. and he just nails to be an absolute crazy maniac.

love this dark and gritty show based on alias comics david tennact stands out as the best villian in the marvel netflix universe

This is an engaging season and takes the issues of consent and agency over one's body literally. The acting is fantastic and it's a great introduction to this generation of Marvel on TV.
