News & Interviews for Jupiter's Legacy: Season 1
The ultimate effect is a lot like watching the 2009 film Julie and Julia, in that sense. If you imagine that Julia Child could fly and shoot lasers out of her eye-holes.
The proliferation of characters can be disorienting and super-Bibb is criminally underused, but "Jupiter's Legacy" works for the most part if your idea of entertainment leans that way.
For a series about superheroes, "Jupiter's Legacy" moves in what feels like slow motion.
The problem is that it comes perilously close to taking itself too seriously. Any opportunity for fun is shut down by perpetually morose teens, action set-pieces we have seen many times before and clunky speeches about the state of the world.
Can't wrangle its sprawling mythology well enough to make a coherent and cohesive first episode.
Mixing the superhero genre with classic films is a great idea! The 1929 storyline is particularly interesting. A different take on a superhero story with a strong cast & crew.
The characters spend eight episodes delivering monologues on "things used to be black and white, but now they're shades of gray" while offering the most black-and-white solutions: Do nothing, or take over the world.
"Jupiter's Legacy" exists in an era where other shows are doing what this aspires to do, but the competition is far better in nearly every way.
We're left with a mess of a show that tries to be too edgy and focuses so much time on the family dynamics that you end up missing everything that's happening in the rest of the world.
There's a good chance you might not make it that far as the cardinal sin of Jupiter's Legacy is its pacing. Both plot threads move along at a snail's pace, which becomes acutely frustrating by about halfway through the season.
Jupiter's Legacy is happy to have its character spend the majority of their screen-time parroting talking points in an almost constant violation of the classic writing axiom to show rather than tell.
In terms of superhero action, Jupiter's Legacy doesn't quite reach the theatrical-quality heights of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, but it does do an adequate job of capturing the spectacle of demigods trying to tear each other apart.
Audience Reviews for Jupiter's Legacy: Season 1
36m agoAwesome show! Really liking how it is a different set of superheroes than we're used to with DC and Marvel. It's darker and gives a more "realistic" take on if the world actually were to have supers. I really hope there's a second season.
1h agoThought it was pretty good. It deserves a much higher score than it's getting. Acting is great. Good diverse / interesting cast. Only the special effects and hero suits can seem a little cheesy. Worth watching with an open mind. Netflix should produce more like this.
1h agoEpisode one was hard to watch. There's so many odd things about this show, from acting to pacing to makeup, and some visual elements are just ripped from other comic books. The last fight scene was good, but unfortunately didn't present anything we haven't seen before. With so many other decent shows to watch on Netflix, I don't think I'm going to invest my time on something that didn't wow me in the first episode.
2h agoGoos seasons, with interesting storytelling and hard heros problems. Hope it will be continued.
4h agoVery well done and impressive, especially for a streaming show. Also the first time I think I've seen multiple heroes in action at once in a focused manner, since marvel and dc have yet to show anything other than heroes taking turns fighting or small amounts of heroes fighting, so it was neat to see that happen. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys classic movies and superhero anything, due to a large portion of the film being reminiscent of a period piece in flashbacks. Just really well made
4h agoBoring, Bad fight scenes, horrible character's development and a lot of non-charismatc characters.
5h agoSlow. Not so good for a superhero show. Invincible is AMAZING. The Boys is BRILLIANT. This boring pile of dog doo doo is not very good at all. Shame. I was actually looking forward to this. The acting is diabolical by the way. The younger cast are particularly bad. Oh dear 👎
6h agoIt was a nice superhero, family drama and action tv series. CGI were a bit not that good. But i was fun to watch. Costume are good too. I wanna si chloe in costume! Definitely going to watch volume 2 of it.
6h agoNot my cup of latte. But watch it for yourself and decide.
6h agoThe make-up effects alone are so horrible that the series is unwatchable. But there's also the art direction that borders on the ridiculous and many scenes are derivative.
