Critic Reviews for Slowly Slowly Catchy Monkey
What's a show to do when all of its major players have scattered to the winds, too bruised and distracted by what's happened between all of them to reunite? It's a question that Killing Eve answers steadily over the course of its third season premiere.
I'll be honest, while there is still a thrill to seeing Villanelle work, I find the splintering of Eve and Villanelle's storyline a bit frustrating.
God, I have so many questions about this marriage, the most important of which is where did Villanelle get her whole entire outfit.
As the new showrunner and lead writer this season, Suzanne Heathcote has given herself plenty of intriguing material to work with.
When watching Killing Eve, it's best to put your morals aside and just enjoy the show that Villanelle puts on.
[Harriet] Walter and Jodie Comer are absolutely wonderful together, a pair of completely violent sociopaths who absolutely understand and even begrudgingly like one another.
Killing Eve is off to a cracking start. Full throttle. No holds barred. We're firing on all cylinders, baby! As per usual, we're also left with more questions than answers. But, everyone was in top form tonight.
...somehow, this episode manages to take the mammoth albatross it was saddled with (Eve being alive just because) and turn it on its head so that we leave the episode reeling.
The freshness may long since have passed but the third season of Killing Eve got off to a decent start with more excellent Villanelle (Jodie Comer) shenanigans, as well as the death of a fan favourite.
Killing Eve has lost none of its swagger. Polished production, razor sharp dialogue and depth of character are abundant, while everyone from the checkout actress down is having fun.
Delightful as it is to see these familiar faces get back on our screen, everything is just slowly slowly catchy monkey - formulaic and a little edgeless.
If there's one thing fans of Killing Eve should be absolutely sure of now that the third season is here, it's that the stakes this year are higher than ever. There's no other way to describe the dark and twisty season premiere.
