Other than a joke at the expense of an easy target -- the Dallas Cowboys -- and on-the-mark dig at the National Rifle Association, most of the episode shoots blanks.

King of the Hill continues to hit the funny bone because it's more real and touching than any non-animated comedy on the air.

While the characters were still coming into their own in season one, the second season is where the show really gelled, and the characters were molded into how we know them today.

Audience Reviews for King of the Hill: Season 2

  • Jul 07, 2020
King of the Hill had a great first season, but its second year was even more successful in crafting its unique voice. Every episode is top-tier for the series, and the writers really went out with some simply ingenious concept (Jumpin' Crack Bass is quite possibly the single most brilliant episode in the series' lengthy run). It also ends with a particularly striking cliffhanger, that for its time was particularly ballsy for an animated series to include. Two decades later, King of the Hill ranks neck-to-neck with the golden years of The Simpsons as one of the best animated sitcoms of all time!
