Late Night With Seth Meyers: Season 1 Reviews

Meyers is likable and pleasant, and the first show probably isn't a good indication of what his "Late Night" will eventually be like. In the early going, though, there isn't much fresh happening there.

Needs improvement, but it'll make it. The goal should be to fit the show to Meyers' obvious strengths, not try to fit Meyers to the show's template.

The monologue was nothing much. Meyers at least seemed instantly comfortable, at home, once he finished a string of so-so punchlines and sat down behind the desk - probably his brain is hardwired from all those "Weekend Update" segments.

Meyers certainly has the potential to wear well, but the play-it-safe approach suggests little interest in tinkering with the latenight template - and indeed, what looks like a desire to slavishly replicate it, only with less comfortable chairs.

Felt totally professional and not at all embarrassing-which means it also felt standard and boilerplate. If Meyers really wants those notes, my big one is: I still don't know what distinguishes Seth Meyers, a competent and likeable guy, from anyone else.

The mission in the next year or so for Late Night With Seth Meyers isn't just to be funny. It's to figure out which one Seth Meyers is.
