This was the darkest entry yet for Legion's third season. But telling David's origin story at this point has to be a dark, horrific tale, given how he's turned out.

What an emotional episode. Devastating, and gives some great backstory / insight into David's life, as well as his parents. Truly amazing stuff.

"Chapter 22" finds itself as the answer to so many questions, and as a place of so many more questions now, while allowing a beautiful love story to play out in its midst.

Given the parallels between Gabrielle and Charles, and Syd and David, there's certainly a question looming over the rest of the season as to whether a cycle of mutual destruction can be avoided. For the former couple, though, it's too late.

"Chapter 22" occasionally achieves a kind of tone-poem beauty, a finely textured character study of the sort that made for the high points of seasons one and two.

"Chapter 22" is a fine reintroduction to Charles Xavier, but an even better episode of Legion. It's able to tell a compelling love story while working in some patented psychedelic and disconcerting imagery.
