Tv Season Info

The soap from "Party of Five" creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman centers on a charismatic schemer (James Wolk) who's created two distinct lives for himself in different parts of Texas. As Bob, he lives in Houston with wife Cat (Adrianne Palick), the daughter of an extremely wealthy oil man (Jon Voight) whose bank account he hopes to drain. Four hundred miles away in Midland, however, he's known as Robert, has a sweet girlfriend (Eloise Mumford)—and is running a scam that's successfully parting victims from their cash. In the short-lived series' only season, he first contemplates going straight; and then calls upon his father (David Keith), a con man who long ago taught him the tricks of the trade, for help with his Midland scheme.

Critic Reviews for Lone Star Season 1

Lone Star, the tale of a charming creep trying to atone for a life of theft and deception, has plenty of intrigue and drama. What it may not have is any good place to go.

Let's say Lone Star has its work cut out for it, and so does Wolk. His portrayal is too nice - too romantic, too good-hearted, too bland - to make Allen interesting, or at least convincing.

What I like about Lone Star, what could make it the strongest TV newcomer of the season, is the ways in which it differs from classic nighttime melodramas.

It's a fantastic show...

This wildly unique and sexy series is also wildly implausible-asking a lot of its audience in this era of social networking.

Lone Star has the makings for a sudsy tune-in.

It is a very, very, very strong pilot.

There's no doubt that the pilot for Lone Star is a strong and well-crafted hour.

Sep 20, 2010 | Full Review…

Less cheesy than Dallas or Dynasty, Lone Star is a prime-time soap for a post-Madoff, post-Enron era and an audience that might root for a charming liar who'd like nothing more than to make everyone happy.

Sep 20, 2010 | Full Review…

Rather than titillate you with how dangerous Bob's life and position are, the show focuses on how sad, and oddly romantic, his torn-between-two-lovers situation is. And in the pilot, at least, it does a very good job.

Lone Star has enormous potential to be a complicated, tightrope-walking tale of two lives.

There's exactly one hour left for a fall TV show that tells its tale in a deliberate, well-written and subtly acted way. That one hour belongs to Fox's Lone Star.
