Someday he may find the scripted sitcom that captures his humor. Not this time.

Jun 29, 2010 | Full Review…

Somebody needs to step in and tell Louis to round up a few friends and save his stand-up for the comedy specials.

Jun 29, 2010 | Full Review…

As brash as his material can be, a melancholy mood nonetheless hangs over the show. It gives Louie' a heart.

Jun 29, 2010 | Full Review…

A looser indie cousin of Seinfeld/Curb, it's a sublime distillation of C. K.'s blend of jovial fatalism and brutal honesty.

After watching four episodes there's a lot to like in Louie.

Louie doesn't come close to sucking. Here's to a season of more awkward moments.

Jun 29, 2010 | Full Review…

It takes a while for Louie to find its own voice, and while it is at times a crude and offensive one, it is not without a strange wit and under-the-radar appeal.

Jun 29, 2010 | Full Review…

Louie succeeds where both Seinfeld and network comedies of the last four decades have failed: it manages to operate within a believable reality, and still have a heart.

Feb 12, 2020 | Rating: A- | Full Review…

"Louie" rarely overplays things. The heavy stuff is always offset by the star's comedic genius, but the show maintains a realism that you simply can't shake.

Jun 19, 2018 | Full Review…

There's something undeniably endearing about Louie, who even at his most shocking seems willing to acknowledge the force of language - and who generally reserves his most cutting words for himself.

Jun 29, 2010 | Full Review…

A brutally funny slice of rant that bears a surface resemblance to Seinfeld in the way that the show organically builds its episodic vignettes around the star's stand-up shtick.

Jun 29, 2010 | Full Review…

Often profane and occasionally offensive, Louie won't be to every viewer's taste, but it's a more interesting show than many with a definitive point of view.

Audience Reviews for Louie: Season 1

  • Mar 22, 2020
The 1st season wasn't 100% comedy, it was more 65% comedy & 35% life. This means that not everything is super funny but most of it is really touching. Also there was at least 1 episode where he was trashing the shit of a blond girl who interrupted him from the 'audience" and it was very bad comedy. Other then that very solid season

(all seasons) A one of a kind endeavor combining C.K.'s stand-up routines with a variety of short incidents and recurring threads that range from hilarious to awkward and from the very real to the deliberately surreal. Although some characters and incidents leave a weird aftertaste, most of them strike as very inspired. C.K. can be enjoyably crass one moment and startlingly sensitive or even artsy the next and this unexpected symbiosis of extremes (and a lot in between) renders "Louie" a very poignant affair.

What 'Louie' does is groundbreaking. It's Seinfeld but with the issues you people are afraid to talk about in public. That makes it edgy. Louie CK is honest and refreshing and a joy.
  • Sep 26, 2016
Sometimes interesting and funny, but Louis C.K. ultimately fails with TV for me.

He's a ginger. A fat ginger. But he tells story of my life.

Gave Louie a try since it came up on Emmy – Outstanding comedy series & Lead actor! Well, It’s a rant which is occasionally offensive and often profane (didn’t bother me at all). Life of a Comedian with so many awkward/miserable moments that it makes you so uncomfortable but at the same time it’s so insanely funny and you are left with this bag of emotional jizz lol. Terrific writing recommended totally - But only for open minded ones!

This is just awesome!!! I watched most of his stand-ups on youtube and kept pushing this away thinking it'd be repeated but I was wrong it is great! The Ricky Gervais episodes are GREAT!!! he is in a couple as his doctor and they are hilarious :p :v :v :v so 5 season... on down 4 to go :)

Sometimes poignant, sometimes acerbic, always very funny - a slow burner to be sure, but if you are taken in by Louis' charm the laughs just keep coming
