SEASON:

Season 1
Love, Death & Robots

Critics Consensus

This animated anthology has enough creative Death to satisfy cyberpunk aficionados who Love their Robots to have some Heavy Metal influence, but the series' lofty ambitions are often undercut by a preoccupation with gore and titillation.

Critic Reviews for Love, Death & Robots Season 1

All Critics (43) | Top Critics (7)

Love, Death & Robots certainly has its peaks and valleys. But there is a solid enough foundation to latch onto, enough commentary to make a point, and enough unhinged, bedazzling eye candy to thoroughly entice.

A project conceived with broad ambition and executed with a maddeningly narrow perspective.

I did enjoy the majority of this, as it is high-quality animation that reflects a diverse groups of artists' visions and presents new stories that we haven't seen.

Love, Death + Robots doesn't suffer from a poverty of visual imagination; it's visually memorable, even occasionally iconic. It simply lacks morality, in every way.

An anthology of ups, downs, and pure unadulterated fun; a carnival ride that's so fun you can't help but be heartbroken when it's over. Just... maybe avoid watching it at work.

Admittedly, despite its box-fresh feel, we have seen a lot of the themes and big reveals before in various formats. Yet [David] Fincher and [Tim] Miller have excelled in making the series feel shiny and new.

This show is so macho it almost drowned me in its testosterone.

Dec 2, 2019 | Rating: C+ | Full Review…

Love, Death & Robots is explicitly obscene in the most entertaining of ways. It's bold and grimy animation that will chew you up and spit you out while you sit there with a black eye, a few less teeth, and a smile on your face eagerly anticipating more.

Love, Death + Robots delivers an inspired collection of short animated films that present a combination of intriguing concepts, unusual animation styles and strong voice acting, resulting in an eclectic mix of twisted tales.

So, I don't know about you, but I for one welcome our robot overlords, especially if animation is going to be this good. Roll on, season two.

The animation is beautiful throughout, whether it's photo-real motion-captured CG, traditional 2D animation, or something in between. ou will, however, find some films that feel like little more than extended video game cut scenes.

It's impressive the ability the directors have to condensate so many emotions, suspense, drama and good filmmaking in so few minutes. [Full Review in Spanish]

Audience Reviews for Love, Death & Robots: Season 1

  • Jul 07, 2020
Absolute original piece of series, crafted and created perfectly although maybe longer episodes but overall perfect and a must watch sci-fi series.

While not every episode is perfect, or good for that matter, there are more than enough good episodes to see. Sonnie's edge, fish night, And three robots are reasons alone to watch this. But in my humble opinion, the crowning achievement of this series so far, is zima blue. I dare not spoil it, but if you are to see only one episode, watch zima blue

I think this show is unique and creative. Each episode is a very well-made and stylished story with Its own elements. Rating: 86/100

One of the best Netflix Shows. Looking forward for Season 2

Amazing visuals, and a showcase for talented artists and animators. Creative storytelling and plots that are somehow lost to gross, graphic obscenity. Coming from someone most of the time completely unbothered by such, it is used in such completely erratic ways that take away from any good storytelling. Essentially murder porn most of the time, found myself amazed by the episodes and then completely skipping them just due to complete lack of taste. Seems like most of the time the animators threw it in their like middle schoolers giggling while drawing dicks on their homework. So sadly disappointing from what could have been amazing. Episodes like Aquila Rift, the Serbian one, and Robots were enthralling and well done, and then episodes like The Witness, the guys in the junkyard had amazing animation with disgusting taste where the animators seemed to enjoy their lack of class in an extremely childish showcase of misogynist tits and gore.

The quality of this show varies from episode to episode. Most are good. A few are amazing (particularly the Huli Jing episode), but a couple of them are just bad, bad, bad. Each episode should be taken on its own merits, but my score is the average of all of them. Beyond the Aquila Rift shouldn't be watched before bed or swexy time IMO.

Apologies for the delay! I watched this nearly a year ago and I never took the time to say how wonderful it was. A compilation of shorts with something for everyone. The only excuse a viewer could have is that it's animated and that's not a good excuse at all. Hats off to the team that did this. Five stars easily!

Really great and imaginative. Along the lines of Black mirror. Very original and worth binge-watching

Well... it's freaking awesome! Every story is a breathtaking journey. Some more astounding, some less - but every single one of them was brilliant. I'm hoping for the second season and more!
  • Mar 25, 2020
very uneven, from exelent episodes, to downright crap.
