Love Has Won comes across as a bastion of blinkered true believers. This is what makes the series both sad and scary. Go to Full Review

More outside perspectives would have brought some much-needed grounding to this saga. Still, in sticking close to Carlson’s family and the inner circle, Olson achieves something that has proven impossible for documentarians telling the stories of cults... Go to Full Review
Nick Schager The Daily Beast 11/12/2023
The three-part Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God is like the cartoon version of a typical cult docuseries, not because of its form—director Hannah Olson sharply and compellingly relays her tale—but because its particulars are so over the top. Go to Full Review

We see “behind closed doors” the daily life, relationships, rituals, beliefs and different stages of this group of people who believed that they were chosen to accompany the descent of God made woman on our planet. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The true crime genre about cults takes a turn in this incredible documentary about a lysergic cult. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Brian R. @brockwell44 Jun 1 Absolutely fascinating documentary. It is hard to understand how people can fool themselves into believing in something so fully despite it being entirely fictional. See more Mike P @RT09890132 06/09/2025 Interesting if slow-moving portrait of this drug cult following a female Messiah; which of course infamously ended in bloodshed and disaster. My only complaint here is that it's so relentlessly cinema verite and glacier-paced; fixating on the day-to-day of these psychos a little too much; and it really gets grotesque watching this cult at play after a while. (And you wonder if they're not glamorizing this stuff a little after awhile. I do appreciate the way women are empowered in this cult, but this is also just objectively grotesque most of the time; the other stuff that happens. It would have been better if they cut to the chase. Less is more sometimes...) But definitely still of interest to true crime fans... See more Jessica C @RT94369358 02/27/2024 Could not stop watching this insane, sad and shocking train wreck. One of the best I’ve seen for shock value and overall wtf. Loved it. See more Diana S @DianaWho 01/30/2024 This isn't a documentary, it's tabloid trash. See more Arya S @AnyaS 12/12/2023 This fascinating docuseries is like going by a crash on the highway...you can't look away from the horror of it. What is stunning is the absolute ignorance and stupidity of the Love Has Won followers, especially "Hope" and "Aurora," who look innocently into the camera and unflinchingly and unapologetically tell the tale of how they basically were unwitting accessories to the manslaughter death of their "beloved" leader Amy Carlson, who died at age 45 basically from lack of basic medical care and ignorance about mental illness. Kudos to the director for letting the players tell their story without overdone narration, music and editing, instead relying on footage from the cult itself. Well worth a view to see how "ordinary" people can descend into group madness. See more Matt L @RT33134797 12/11/2023 I don't think this was a poorly-made documentary, it just had such ridiculously stupid subject matter that it was painful to watch. These people are morons. If you like watching and listening to morons, then maybe you'll like it more than I did. See more Read all reviews
