The most likable character in "Love, Victor" isn't Victor (though he's a good guy and we're rooting for him) - it's Mia, who falls in love with a boy who knows he can't love her back in the same way but allows her heart to shatter.

Love, Victor's fanfic-y charm also comes from its embrace of all the good things about teen romance.

Despite the differences between their leads, Love, Victor conforms exactly to the narrative shape and modest, crowd-pleasing ambitions of the film that preceded it.

On its own, Love, Victor is a good, pleasant TV show. As the frankly resentful follow-up to a similarly pleasant movie, Love, Victor is something much more interesting.

Apart from the main theme... none of the plotlines feel especially original; but that also never feels particularly like a problem, as the characters are likable, the series is good-hearted and the more serious exchanges feel emotionally true.

When Love, Victor works, it really works -- and when it doesn't, that still feels quietly groundbreaking in its own way, by making an LGBTQ+ love story so accessible and normal on a family-friendly TV show.

Love, Victor is about discovery and you will smile if you can understand or relate to Victor's uncertainty and struggle of figuring out who he is.

Although groundbreaking in and of itself in many way, Victor's story is most special because of how normally the show treats it and its charismatic and adorable title character. There's just so much here to love.

Love, Victor [is] easily digestible and solidly entertaining yet lacking.

Though it doesn't take as many bold chances as I'd hoped it would, Love, Victor does still possess an undeniable charm.

All told, Love, Victor ambles along, deliberately bland and pleasantly toothless. Having seen the whole season, it's completely appropriate for its young adult audience and therefore downright ridiculous that Disney Plus punted Love, Victor to Hulu.

There are much better TV seasons involving gay teens figuring out when, how, and why to speak their truth to the people they love, but this one's heart is largely in the right place, and sometimes, sincerity's enough.

The show's episodic sitcom rhythms allow for an easier access point to the narrative about identity and prejudice.

On the whole, Love, Victor is an easy, breezy romcom that makes for a delightful weekend binge. The romantic tropes are well trod and Love, Victor deploys them charmingly.

Love, Victor makes the same important point that Love, Simon did, which is why so many rallied so passionately around the film...

Love, Victor winds a well-acted trip through bittersweet teenage drama and romance.

There's still a lot of joy to be found throughout. It's fun and moving, binge-able and genuine, poignant and funny -everything you could possibly ask for from a coming-of-age show. Just don't expect too much though.

It's reassuring to see that Love, Victor has now made a conscious effort to push diversity forward within the franchise, even if there's still more work to be done in future seasons.

It would be irresistible if it played up that wit, fleshed out its protagonist and explored the deeper implications of the Salazars' faith, instead of packing in schmaltzy moral-of-the-story moments.

Love, Victor makes good on its promise to expand beyond the narrow confines of Simon's story, but it doesn't get very far.
