Mad Men: Season 4 (2010)

Critic Consensus: While Mad Men continues to darken in tone, it remains one of the most provocative, intelligent shows on television.

Tv Season Info

Following his divorce from Betty (January Jones) and his decision to leave behind his old firm in order to create a new ad agency, Don Draper (Jon Hamm) is finding himself adrift in a brave new world. As he sinks deeper into loneliness and alcoholism, it becomes increasingly clear that Don is unable to take care of himself as a single man, and that he needs to find himself a new wife as soon as possible. The rest of the cast are also struggling with new roles and responsibilities: Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss) finds some bohemian friends and starts dating a hippie journalist (Charlie Hofheimer), Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser) learns he's going to be a father, Roger Sterling (John Slattery) contemplates his growing obsolescence and Lane Pryce (Jared Harris) adjusts to life in America.

After four seasons, this is still the hour of television that I find closest to perfection: intelligent, always involving and continually surprising.

Mad Men remains the best show on television.

It remains relevant, poignant and artfully constructed as it launches its fourth season.

Brooding and addictive, sleek and revelatory, Mad Men is back.

July 25, 2010 | Full Review…

The actual stuff of Mad Men's action is, essentially, the stuff of soap opera...this impulse might be worth indulging (briefly), but the problem with Mad Men is that it suffers from a hypocrisy of its own.
