Critics Consensus

Maid takes great care with its sensitive subject matter to craft a drama that is not always easy to watch, but undeniably powerful, grounded by an outstanding performance by Margaret Qualley.

Maid deals with the hardship of female poverty with a straight approach, and always centred through the experiences of this sympathetic character that you want to root for. Go to Full Review

At a time when women's discontent has gone from "the problem that has no name" to a primal scream, Maid fails to show a place in between, one where mothers are given a voice without having to be perfect. Go to Full Review

4.5/5
Less than two months after its release, Maid has brought audiences across the world to their knees. Gritty, raw, almost painful in places, this Netflix series more than lives up to the hype. Go to Full Review

9/10
It takes the average woman 7 attempts to leave her abusive partner. And nearly 25% of single mothers live in poverty. Maid shines a light on a real problem, and the thoroughly broken system trying to solve it. It should be required watching for all of us. Go to Full Review

Movie G @MovieGuy532 Sep 16, 2026 Margaret's acting is the best I've seen since movies like Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting. It's a dam shame this show doesn't qualify for an Oscar, because she deserves it. I think she brought a lot of herself to this, but no matter what, outstanding. She's got quite a career ahead. I also wanted to add a note about the subject matter itself. All the men in the movie ultimately wanted a piece of her character, including Nate. He was more polished and had more self control, and I'd also argue a less likable character than her ex husband. I think most humans prefer authentic all things considered equal.Women don't typically get untethered assistance, except from other women. By even strict numbers, millions of women are actively living this experience today. That waitress or store employee you yelled at,may be getting that at home too. Think before you act, and act kindly without expectation.A smile is not always for approval. The writers and the whole team were precise and excellent See more Darcy S @DShea Sep 15, 2026 That was really good, brings you back to reality and really makes you remember to never take anything you have for granted. See more Jay D @Jaydegnl Jun 6, 2026 Good acting and overall story but for me the drama stretches a little to long. Almost every episode goes the same. Eventually it started to annoy me and it became hard to finish the episodes. However, still a very good show to kill time.
