Tv Season Info

The first season of this drama series inspired by 2006 film "Stick It" follows the lives of teen gymnasts who strive to make it to the 2012 Olympics. Rookie Emily Kmetko (Chelsea Hobbs) begins learning gymnastics at The Rock, where best friends and teammates Payson Keeler (Ayla Kell), Kaylie Cruz (Josie Loren) and Lauren Tanner (Cassie Scerbo) have trained for years. The girls face a big setback when their head coach Marty Walsh (Erik Palladino) transfers, along with Lauren and several top gymnasts, to The Rock's rival gym, after being blackmailed by Lauren's father, Steve Tanner (Anthony Starke). Marty's replacement, former Olympic champion Sasha Belov (Neil Jackson), soon creates conflict with his strict coaching style, as the girls attempt to balance the demands of being top athletes with the teen temptations of partying and boys. Tensions are high as Nationals approaches, when secrets are revealed that endanger everything the gymnasts have worked so hard to achieve.

There's very little that's unexpected in "Make It," including the obvious editing of the gymnastics performances. But Emily's a tough character who's easy to root for.

The somersaults and airy leaps are mesmerizing at first. But in the end, "Make It or Break It'' falls flat.

Make It or Break It, a 10-episode drama set in the high-strung world of girls' gymnastics, makes itself compelling by the simple trick of understanding the fundamentals.

The show is a somewhat silly hour-long diversion that tries to be both a soap opera and inspirational family drama - and succeeds at neither.

This season of Make It or Break It has been building up to some big moments, but last night's season finale delivered some big moments, including the aforementioned, and set us up for a killer season 2.

The show is going to rise or fall, however, on its gymnastics scenes. And so far, the producers are willing to spend the money and take the time necessary to make them thrilling and pleasurable to watch.

It's such an efficiently executed routine that it scores pretty well, with a serialized storyline that should pull the judges who really count... along into subsequent rotations.

Make It or Break It seems prepared to take on not only the obvious Life Lessons but also the crucial undercurrents that move so many lives well into adulthood. And that, as much as the graceful wonder of gymnastics, will make it worth watching.

The show is relatively entertaining and its good enough to fit in among ABC Family's other shows... MIoBI has gymnastics. I'm thinking that'll be enough to get plenty of teens and young adults to tune in and the rest will watch for the drama.

It's good some good characters and a plot you can really get into. It may not be a genius TV show but it's certainly thrilling at times and more well developed than the average teen soap.
