Acclaimed writer Hans Rosenfeldt continues his first British drama following the international success of the Swedish/Danish series "The Bridge." Anna Friel stars in the lead role of Marcella Backland, a British police detective working in contemporary London. Set in Rosenfeldt's unique style of "Nordic noir," the body of a missing child is discovered inside a wall and a task force is assembled to catch the killer. A complex set of characters from all walks of life and interweaving storylines take viewers on a dark and emotional journey with turns at every corner.

It's bonkers, but let's face it, Marcella has rejoiced in its own full-pelt absurdity. Go to Full Review

I'm trying to recall if there was a single moment in Marcella that wasn't parodically throw-yourself-under-a-bus miserable. Go to Full Review

She is back. Marcella, with a "ch" sound in the middle. Anna Friel giving it everything, entertainingly and very watchably, as an unlikely and very uncoplike cop, remember? Go to Full Review

The twists and turns along the way have confused the hell out of you lot and confused the hell out of us too, but we've finally found the light at the end of the tunnel. Go to Full Review

Marcella went from harmless shoe truther to ring-a-ding berserker relieving itself into the village's centennial water trough and honking at traffic like an excited goose. Go to Full Review

David F @RT34372367 12/23/2024 This was fun. It's the Comic Strip reunion as Neil from The Young Ones and Keith Allen play a drummer and his manager hiding a deadly secret. Marcella has now earned the trust of her Indian boss, then loses it because she is shagging *his* boss. There's a plot about a strange person inserting wooden discs into schoolchildren, and ageing Irish beauty, Victoria Smurfit plays the ruthless head of a morally-bankrupt family. See more Katie L @RT90686168 12/07/2024 Season 1 was good, but season 2 went off the deep end. The acting was good, but many of the characters actions and story arcs were not believable including Marcella herself. The plotlines were completely bonkers with pointless dead ends and multiple unfinished narratives. Also, the ending was terrible! See more Larsen L @RT75580892 10/25/2024 The first season was entertaining but the second season was one big mess. See more Ted B @Movieaddicted 05/25/2024 4.0 stars; I thought the first season was very dark. But it was only preparing me for a darker second Season. 'Crimes against children' is a very squeamish subject, which made Series 2 hard to watch for me. What I like about these Series in general is the twist- and-turn plot, along with the who-dun-it aspect to the theme. Sorry. I don't buy the criticism that plot is unrealistic because so many characters are intertwined. How else are you going to write a twist-and- turn mystery? Once again, Anna Friel carries the load for the acting. She is very good and adds the realism needed to a concocted story. I'm really looking forward to Season 3. See more elana k @RT79062488 02/05/2024 absolutely ridiculous: how all the witnesses, suspects and victims are somehow all connected in one way or another to Marcella, past or present... All the major serial killer style murder's in London seem to concentrate at the police station which sees Marcella, the madwoman, at the helm. So many loose ends, so many incomplete narratives. And why TF do none of the police carry guns or handcuffs? See more Krishna K @RT89361548 01/24/2024 it was good for most part but the unpleasant sound effects are very annoying, maybe its was a poor effort to recreate the mental state of the protagonist in the audience See more Read all reviews
