As a youth of 15 or 16, Marco Polo first met his father and uncle and embarked on an epic adventure, crossing thousands of miles of unforgiving terrain, through political unrest and upheaval, to the court of Kublai Khan in what is now Beijing. A Netflix original, rife with warfare and political/sexual intrigue, spotlights the years at the Chinese court and the journeys. A global roster of stars includes Italian newcomer Lorenzo Richelmy as Marco. Filming sites are Italy, Kazakhstan and Malaysia; producers couldn't get permission in China.

The season premiere of Marco Polo is lacking in action and heavy on the setup, but the setup is promising. Go to Full Review

It's all just a matter of perspective who your hero is. "Marco Polo" knows it, and that's why season 2 works so well. Go to Full Review

Pushing its hero sideways and making more of its Asian roots won't solve all of this drama's problems. But at least the signs are there now that Marco Polo might yet live up to its promise. Go to Full Review

Still not a great series, Marco Polo continued to impress with its grandeur and scope and the production levels are still a big notch in the plus column. Go to Full Review

Marco Polo season 2 has several moving parts to its plot, but the team of writers and directors prove once again that they can handle a show of this scale. Go to Full Review

The potential for converts isn't even up for discussion as Marco Polo delves into its byzantine, stylish second season, which has just enough nifty set pieces and cool characters to compensate (barely) for a humdrum wartime plot. Go to Full Review

Edward L @Glyndower Jan 18 The first season was very watchable but Season 2 is overly complicated making it difficult to understand who is plotting against whom. This is not helped by the introduction of flashbacks, supernatural and kung fu nonsense. The lighting has always been poor on this series, too much of it takes place at night or in very dark interiors. I was hooked from episode one. Fantastic storyline, action and the actors immediately drew the viewer into the show. Series three please! See more Susan W @swsw2486 May 21 I don't know why they stopped this show. It's like Game of Thrones but in Asia. I guess less people are interered See more Greta B 07/24/2023 Shortcomings aside, the ingredients of this show combined to be very watchable. I've just enjoyed a third viewing of the whole series, and still appreciate the tangible world they created, the acting, the beauty and the terror even if it is not entirely (or very) accurate to historical record. Will always be sad that they wouldn't negotiate a closure season. The Hundred Eyes standalone was also quite enjoyable. See more james M 05/26/2023 Absolutely great show. Yes some of the secondary plotlines were cheesy and implausible. But other than that, this show ruled. Super bummed it was canceled. Product values were nuts on this show. The sets and costumes and locations were amazing. Cast had some real standouts and overall was great. Martial arts fight scenes were Crouching Tiger level. So much cool stuff in this show. Some of the corny secondary plotlines IMO just made this an easier show to watch. They could have made it more realistic character-wise but then it just wouldn't be as fun and entertaining. They clearly were planning to continue the show, cause a lot of future plotlines were set up in S2. Even the final episode was a MAJOR cliffhanger. I get why it was canceled though, it was insanely expensive to make. Probably like GoT level expensive, but it wasn't as popular. Bummer, it was a great show. It's definitely worth watching these 2 seasons as a standalone. See more Read all reviews
