With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana. Kayce and his teammates -- Pete Calvin, Belle Skinner, Andrea Cruz, and Miles Kittle -- must balance the high psychological cost of serving as the last line of defense in the region's war on violence with their duty to their families.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Marshals confines Kayce Dutton within a dim procedural that lacks the narrative spark and intrigue that Yellowstone managed instantly, making this one ham-fisted trek.

Sure, it’s generic, and rusted-on Yellowstone fans might miss the soapy elements of the flagship show, the philosophising tone, but so far, it’s surviving well with a seemingly new viewership. Go to Full Review

The prolific Sheridan didn’t work on the show, which might explain why it’s a compact, somewhat predictable, network procedural. Go to Full Review

Plays less like the next chapter in the Dutton saga than a side expedition, adjacent to the family legacy but not meaningfully advancing it. Go to Full Review

Marshals stands as a capable and thoughtfully mounted continuation, yet one that occasionally feels as though something vital has been tempered — a reminder that not every expansion strengthens what made the original resonate. Go to Full Review

A generic spinoff of Taylor Sheridan's 'Yellowstone' franchise, it's shaped by showrunner Spencer Hudnut and follows a formulaic 'case-of-the-week' procedural plot. Go to Full Review
Josh Rosenberg Esquire Magazine Mar 19
Kayce’s life is now a kind of TV show that you’ve seen countless times before. It doesn’t have the same artfulness behind it, and the pacing barely leaves time for sweeping shots of the Montana valley or reflection of any kind. Go to Full Review

frans B @oupabes 1d The story had great potential, but the writing and cast let it down. The U.S. Marshals don't even look like Marshals, the characters lack depth, and one deputy marshal is portrayed as an arrogant, know-it-all city girl who often distracts from Kasey's story. Kasey's journey had the potential to be compelling, but the series relies too heavily on the reservation setting instead of developing its supporting characters. The emotional impact never really lands. This was marketed as a Yellowstone spin-off, so viewers expected the same level of storytelling and authenticity, not a predictable, borderline soap drama. Make the Marshals look and act like Marshals, with proper uniforms, authority, and professionalism. Strong stories and believable characters attract audiences, and this series still has the potential to become a worthy spin-off. See more Daniel L @Hotchopeppa 6d Cool idea. Terrible execution. It’s great to see Casey and be back in Montana but the writing in their spinoff is just terrible. The show is ruined by Miles and Belle crying about their feelings every two seconds. And the black chick from the ghetto is so out of place. Whoever wrote and directed this dribble needs to get a new career. Not worthy of Tyler Sheridans masterpiece. See more Ebb T @RT48327737 Jun 23 So bad last time I saw 2 actresses overacting that much well not sure I can remember, over strutting with nothing to show acting so tough laughable ...I guess with this one the Sheridan magic at least when it comes to casting is a miss. Casey and his buddy are average, tate is still just a poor actor, rainwater and buddy good all other actors so bad. The fight scenes dam that shits laughable, who did you get to choreograph the fights Stallone? The scenery as usual is spectacular the horses as usual beautiful the only solid part to this whole production. I got to the 3rd episode before we had to turn it off it's so predictable and just so poorly done I'm extremely disappointed in you Sheridan we've come to expect much bigger and better tighter productions this one is just plain weak and I couldn't recommend it to anyone. The key to good stuff is actors don't look like they're acting 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎 See more Marcus C @RT80211981 Jun 22 This is painful to watch. My wife likes it because of the Yellowstone connection, but I just can’t. Even having it on in the background is rough because the dialogue is painfully bad. Honestly, this could almost work as a form of torture. Forget waterboarding.. just make someone listen to this writing for ten minutes and they’ll tell you everything. See more Peter T. @ggnpeter Jun 20 CBS took over the direction and writing for this series and turned it into a shallow crime series knockoff. It's so bad that it has kept me from watching the new Dutton Ranch series. It's sad that something can be so bad that it damages the whole franchise. See more Bill N @Nashnet Jun 19 Disappointing. The writing was poor and the stories unrealistic. It came off to me more like a soap opera. See more Read all reviews
