With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana. Kayce and his teammates -- Pete Calvin, Belle Skinner, Andrea Cruz, and Miles Kittle -- must balance the high psychological cost of serving as the last line of defense in the region's war on violence with their duty to their families.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Marshals confines Kayce Dutton within a dim procedural that lacks the narrative spark and intrigue that Yellowstone managed instantly, making this one ham-fisted trek.

The prolific Sheridan didn’t work on the show, which might explain why it’s a compact, somewhat predictable, network procedural. Go to Full Review

Plays less like the next chapter in the Dutton saga than a side expedition, adjacent to the family legacy but not meaningfully advancing it. Go to Full Review

In truth, it’s too enamored of Dutton lore to let Kayce stand on his own, let alone the show around him. Go to Full Review

A generic spinoff of Taylor Sheridan's 'Yellowstone' franchise, it's shaped by showrunner Spencer Hudnut and follows a formulaic 'case-of-the-week' procedural plot. Go to Full Review

Kayce’s life is now a kind of TV show that you’ve seen countless times before. It doesn’t have the same artfulness behind it, and the pacing barely leaves time for sweeping shots of the Montana valley or reflection of any kind. Go to Full Review

The franchise spinoff switches gears from Yellowstone's complicated, dynastic story world to a crime-fighting TV procedural. Go to Full Review

Jake S. @TheBrewMan 9h Kayce is being wrecked by the others around him. Putting this show on regular tv made it fall apart. It’s a shame. Had so much promise, but failed so bad because it’s on regular tv. Just another reason people have PARAMOUNT+ Regular tv should be for the news, your local weather, and the NFL. See more Marise P @RT81162503 1d Marshals Season 1 is a rough watch. It follows Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes, as he joins a U.S. Marshals team in Montana after leaving the Yellowstone Ranch, turning the epic family drama into a weekly crime procedural. The cast includes Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, and others, but many feel like unknowns who just don’t deliver the intensity the franchise is known for. The storyline is weak and predictable — it’s basically a standard cop show with some Montana scenery and occasional nods to Dutton family trauma. The writing lacks the depth and grit of the original Yellowstone, making it feel like a generic network procedural that doesn’t live up to the hype. Honestly, it comes off as an embarrassment for the Yellowstone universe. If you’re a die-hard fan hoping for more of that Sheridan magic, you’ll probably be disappointed. Skip this one!!!! See more Ken A. @RT79026061 2d This show is terrible!!! Instead of developing the original cast they have to bring in Luke’s friend Riley Greene to create a storyline and role for an average karaoke country singer (actually both are bad singers but at least Luke is a good actor Greene sux). I feel like I’m watching a tv series on Hallmark. The writing is so terrible. You would think that spinning off one of the greatest shows ever on tv they would recruit great writers for their spinoffs. The storylines suck!! The cast is GREAT with the exception of Greene (a storyline that didn’t need to be created). I am so surprised it got picked up for a second season with the low ratings it has and the terrible storylines. I stopped watching after the episode they introduced Greene the storyline and acting made it more unbearable to watch. I bet it doesn’t get a third season. It has no Balls like the rest of the “Sheridan Universe” Fire the writers and Greene or this show is doomed!!!! See more T J @RT97249779 2d Watched one episode and that was enough for me. Plot was so unrealistic. And there is a season of this? Like how many Marshalls are out there in small towns riding around catching bad guys? Please.... See more Chuck W. @RT34508428 6d The show has a nice interaction with the Native American community. The characters are interesting and I am enjoying the series. The scenery is great and the plots have been decent to good. See more Brian D @RT79575252 May 5 This rubbish, with cringeworthy script, predictable plot and ham acting is in real danger of damaging the Yellowstone Brand. See more Read all reviews
