"Mastermind" feels content with superficial, Wikipedia-level summary told at an aggressively rushed, and therefore unmoving, pace. Go to Full Review

The action, so to speak, has taken place in the mind of the subject and all the archival material in the world isn’t going to make it cinematic. Where “Mastermind” really picks up momentum, though, is in episode 3. Go to Full Review

I found [Ann Burgess] a hypnotic person to listen to, her demeanour — like a cross between Miss Marple and Julie Andrews — contrasting with the grotesquely violent crimes in which she has spent her whole life immersed. Go to Full Review

Kate C 07/12/2024 For anyone who liked Mindhunter (RIP), this show centers around Ann Burgess, the real-life inspiration for the character Wendy. A true crime show centered around Burgess is LONG overdue, and I'm thrilled that this one does her justice. See more Bob V 07/11/2024 Inspiring! I love to see people persevere against the "norms" of societal expectations especially with the passion that Ann had/has for helping victims. The production is well done, oscillating between the personal impact on Anns personal life with the horrors what she sees and hears as a part of her work. See more Read all reviews
