Excellent stuff. Season premieres can get bogged down in exposition, but so long as the series has Sheen and Caplan at the center of it, it's likely always going to be rich and satisfying and very, very complicated.

It's in this storyline that Ashford skillfully uses the trick of letting the audience's knowledge of what's coming play off of characters who are necessarily limited by their historical perspective.

Ultimately, this is a show that works not because of narrative tricks but because the relationships at its heart are beautifully written and brilliantly played.

Masters of Sex is an incredibly dense show, and second seasons are always interesting places to see if series are able to carry the momentum that they've established, or crumble under the weight.
