Matka King stays too generic to scale the peak of a genre that treads the thin line between glorifying and humanising careers of crime. Go to Full Review

Matka King presents the glittery and ghastly world of gambling. And the good thing is that the filmmaker refuses to paint his characters in one broad stroke. Go to Full Review

Matka King could have been the best Indian show this year. It had the right ingredients. But it fell prey to an inability to take risks. Ironically enough, a show on gambling suffers because its makers refused to roll the dice more. Go to Full Review

Matka King ironically comes at a time when illegal betting apps are in full swing. It tells you that nothing has changed. People want to make a quick buck at any cost. It's both a period piece on one hand and a mirror to the present society on the other. Go to Full Review

Shailendra K @RT46198328 1d The series starts with a pretty decent look at the genesis at Matka with interesting, well written characters and in a pretty authentic setting of the 60s and 70s India. The initial episodes that show the creation of the Matka and its expansion are pretty gripping. The series begins with a protagonist that the audience roots for as he challenges the unjust system and corrupt rich with his wits and principles. However as the series progresses, the likability of its main protagonist diminishes significantly and for me thats where the series actually falls off a bit even though as a whole it is still a pretty interesting and gripping. The entire cast does a pretty good job bringing their characters to life. Vijay Varma, Sai Tamhankar, Kritika Kamra and Siddharth Jadhav are the stand out performers in this ensemble. The others also do a good job also. It is an overall good, gripping and fairly interesting series but could have been much better. 7/10 See more Read all reviews
