Paula repeatedly makes terrible decisions that serve no discernible purpose other than to place herself in greater danger and manufacture the next crisis. One moment she is portrayed as sensible and intelligent, the next she becomes irrational, delusional, and incapable of basic judgment. She is incapable of calling 911 like everyone else. Worse, nearly every plot development depends on characters being conveniently one step behind—one turn too late, one phone call missed, one obvious clue overlooked. Rather than allowing events to unfold naturally, the show relies on coincidence, incompetence, and inexplicable decision-making to force contrived twists. The result feels less like suspense arising organically from the story and more like the writers manipulating the characters into whatever behavior is necessary--often contrary to who they are--to reach the next predetermined plot point. But shoot, it's been a minute since I've watched a show and I've been equally enthralled, giggling, and on the edge of my seat. It really hits the head on the nail for a series where I've been craving some sort of mystery but it's quirky. Characters are spot on with clear antagonists that you actually want to hate. You're on the ride as soon as you get. But you have to definitely pay attention to the beginning cause if you don't you may get a little lost. I wasn't paying attention at the beginning cause of all the "sex" and I missed crucial things to the pot (what a rookie). Anyways, I will definitely rewatch this again. How am I supposed to root for someone so deeply flawed with so few redeeming qualities? She starts out as a victim, but she constantly makes matters worse through her own poor decision-making. The only reason we would get a second season is that the finale hinges on yet another terrible choice. I would say this is less thrilling and more frustrating.
