Dave C @RT09838700 06/08/2024 An interesting angle from which to tell the story, but it isn’t substantial enough to captivate or engage the audience. The script is weak, there is no real emotional connection, and there isn’t really much shown of who MC was, what her drive and motivations were, nor what her core beliefs are. It’s not a biopic, I know, but it does feel these elements would have really enhanced the whole story See more Dan R @RT53832531 12/04/2023 'Maxine', the story of the Soham killings, recently dropped onto Netflix after it's original run on Channel 5 (UK). SYNOPSIS: 'Examine the investigation into school assistant Maxine Carr and her fiancé Ian Huntley, who was imprisoned for the killings of school girls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.' This series is as much about Ian Huntley as it is Maxine Carr so the name of the series is slightly deceptive. What we don't see, and probably rightly so, is Huntley committing the murders in question. Everything else appears to be fair game. The series is a difficult watch and in the UK Channel 5 got a lot of criticism for producing this series. In many ways the murders highlighted not only what was wrong with many institutional bodies at the time but also society itself. It's also a reminder that evil lurks within all of our communities and how easy it can be for those people to stay hidden and slip through the cracks of society. Jemma Carlton and Scott Reid are brilliant in their roles, roles which would've been brave undertakings considering the story matter. A troubling but exceptional drama. 8/10 See more Read all reviews
