Neurosurgeon Rowan Fielding has a problem. When she gets mad, she kills with her mind. Her search for answers sends her to New Orleans, home to her biological family and the spirit Lasher who has haunted them for generations. Ciprien (Sip) Grieve, a devoted agent to the Talamasca, is assigned to protect Rowan. He soon realizes he's in way over his head as secrets are revealed that could tarnish Rowan's family and his role in the Talamasca. As Lasher's seduction of Rowan deepens her role in an ancient prophecy becomes clear. This prophecy culminates in the birth of Lasher. Rowan is determined to use Lasher's powers to fulfill her purpose as a healer, but when tragedy strikes, she must put aside her own desires and fight to save her family. This proves to be a challenge as Sip and the Talamasca are also hell-bent on capturing Lasher. The battle to control him ultimately leads back to Donnelaith, the ancient stronghold of the Mayfair family.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Mayfair Witches has competent gloss and a likable lead in Alexandra Daddario, but this brew is made up of too many derivative elements to conjure a compelling spell of its own.

Mayfair Witches struggles with tone. A story that could be reminiscent of, say, Naomi Alderman’s excellent novel The Power is undercut by a backstory of quite gloopy gothic horror. Go to Full Review

Daddario, as the character being introduced to this world of weirdos, does her best but is hampered by dull direction and a poor script. Go to Full Review

New Orleans is a telegenic city, but it’s rarely been captured in such a vivid, ghostly light. Yet there’s plenty of substance behind the gorgeous veneer. Go to Full Review

It is a series that invites you to “cry if you want to”, even if the tears are made of blood. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Alexandra Daddario finally gets a rich role to sink her teeth into and helps make Mayfair Witches strong enough to stand aside Anne Rice’s other popular works of fiction. Go to Full Review

Mayfair Witches is a time-switching narrative that spans generations but one that never quite engages in the way you feel it should. Go to Full Review

Sylvestris D @Sylvestris Jan 14 If you are looking for a story with supernatural beings and a touch of real life and you don't have strict concerns about the "elite storyline" mayfair witches is a really good show. See more Jeff K. @CastleJSkull Dec 26 Such a far cry from The Interview with a Vampire adoption. Alexandra Daddario is poorly cast, major characters are missing, the Talamasca is not portrayed correctly, and the setting of the Great Mayfair House and New Orleans is bland AF. See more Angel G. @AngelG626 Oct 30 Great storytelling, but where are the hotties? I’ve never read the series, but I was hooked! The story was great, the acting solid, and the pacing kept me watching. But listen… who cast this show? Everyone did amazing, but not a single hot male lead in sight. It’s like they went, “Let’s make sure no one gets a crush.” There’s a reason shows like The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, and Charmed stayed on air for years! People love good storytelling and eye candy. Give me drama and jawlines next time, please. See more Ginger G Oct 5 I have read the series twice and did not really like the differences between the books and the series. Some of it didn’t make sense. See more Spike D @Spike93 Sep 22 Interview With The Vampire always boasts such scope and ambition, with a tightly-weaved narrative that is never wasteful. None of that is present here. This is a sister show in name only. See more Read all reviews
