[An] engaging new dynastic drama.

Despite a talented cast, Masters of Florence immediately unravels to become a soap opera set in a Renaissance faire... The series goes too far to manufacture drama when the historical truth is more entertaining than the fiction.

It is a fascinating study of medieval passions and intrigue.

There are outstanding performances from Hoffman and Madden and the pacing of the show means that it improves as it goes on.

As artful as the premise sounds, the story is too dense, wrought with too many players and edited in such a way that it often feels rushed and thrown together.

Are we really meant to believe that while the Medicis bought a papacy... they never made the connection between money and laundering? Like much else in this middling tale, it doesn't quite wash.

Enjoyable to watch, although itâ??s not always historically accurate. Also thereâ??s a bit too much drama at times but still, itâ??s a good show.

I really liked this way more than I expected to. Richard Madden was incredible as Cosimo as was much of the cast. I am die hard Dustin Hoffman Fan but I didn't care for him in this role at all. Why didn't he act with an accent? But that's the real problem. He just wasn't believable for me in this role at all. It was wild seeing GOT actor David Bradley (Walder Frey) as Richard Madden's (Rob Stark's) father in law! That was wild. And then I see Sean Bean is Medici the Magnificent. I would highly recommend the show. It's interesting, exciting, fast paced & well acted.

Pretty mediocre, but the soundtrack carried me through the season.

An engaging depiction of a particularly complex historical era. I'm surprised at the low official rating on RT as this production manages to present characters with some emotional depth, whose fate one is drawn into caring about, despite the unrelenting bleakness and uncertainty of their lives. The casting of season 1 was excellent and I look forward to season 2. It is vastly better than the dreadful series on the Borgias currently on Netflix. Perhaps the producers could think of moving on to the Visconti-Sforza dynasty next?

Just started watching and have made it through the first 2 episodes of Season 1. Extremely well done with some very prominent actors. This already seems like 1 of the top 3 TV mini series I have seen in the last 5 years. Hopefully this will have a long run life, especially given the historical backdrop of such a prominent family in Florence.

Why make a historical series if you do not portray history accurately? Is this intended to trick the audience, or make them stupider? For starters, there is no evidence that Giovanni di Bicci de' Medici was murdered. That was purely for entertainment purposes. Secondly, they have the timeline of the construction of the Duomo wrong. Cosimo didn't build the Duomo to prove to his dead father that he was, indeed, an artist. In reality, construction on the Duomo began in Giovanni's lifetime. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. I had to stop watching around episode three when it was revealed that the tension between Cosimo (Richard Madden) and his mother evolved around the fact that Cosimo allegedly "watched his twin brother drown and didn't save him." You know, the twin bother that died in infancy. It was too inaccurate for me to put anymore time into the series after that.
